Orvieto to me is one of the most fantastic of all those fantastic Italian hill towns - easy to to by train - from the Orvieto station a funicular takes you right up to the Old Town regally crowning an old volcano plug - trekking thru the underground tunnels hewn out during centuries for various reasons is a top thing to do here - now some say that with so many tunnels crisscrossing the town that Orvieto is built on a house of cards but this seems to be hyperbole
