Need help planning a trip to Athens in 1 month!
 

My mother and I decided to attend an event in Agrinion Sept 7-10. I understand it's 240 km from Athens. We arrive in Athens Sept. 1 and aren't sure what places to see in a few days. Also, could use advice on whether it's wise to rent a car to make our way to Delphi, Corinth, Agrinion. <BR>

Ann, <BR> <BR>How lucky you are--I'd go to Greece in a heartbeat. <BR> <BR>Well, definitely get to the Parthenon, the archaeological museum (http://www.culture.gr/2/21/214/21405m/e21405m1.html), and the Agora in Athens. Walk around the Plaka. Perhaps climb the big hill in Athens, Mount Lycabettus (Likavitos), in the Kolonaki area. <BR> <BR>I'll be curious to see what others recommend, but I wouldn't rent a car. Greek drivers were too scary for me. My husband and I took a public bus to Delphi, but I know there are also bus tours to those cities. <BR> <BR>

Definatly go to the archaeological museum. It is wonderful. Plan on a good portion of your day. They have a resturant there and places to sit and rest. I would not drive in Greece for the reason given above and also because getting to Delphi is somewhat circuitous and the road signs are non existant or very poor at best. It is worth visiting however. Take comfortable shoes with you. You could also take a day boat tour of three of the closer Islands. A lot of the hotels have rooftop resturants(not all of them are actually on the roof, but the top floor.) I stayed about 8 blocks from the Acropolus 2 years ago and could view it while having breakfast. 2 1/2 days in Athins is probable quite enough so take some excursions. Ann, <BR>my recommendation would be: Don't Go. <BR>there are better places to see in Euerope, like Paris.

Ann, I second the "I'd go in a heartbeat". We walked the city when we were there, but wouldn't hesitate to drive outside of Athens. See all that Penny mentioned, plus don't forget the changing of the guards(Syntagma Square), the National Gardens(east of the Plaka), the bazaar area(north of the Plaka), take a lap around the track of the Stadium, find the little Byzatine church on Ermou (Church of Metamophisis). While doing all these don't forget to do the most important, absorb!
