Need help me with planning Austria and Italy trip Dec 2013

Jump to last reply

Hi everyone! I could really use some help with planning my trip in the end of December 2013. All I Have planned right now is to fly into Vienna on December 19th and fly out of Rome on January 2nd. I am hoping to stay in Vienna from December 19th-December 26th to spend time and the Christmas holiday with family. My family does work during the day, so I can probably do day trips during that time. On the 26th, I am planning on heading south to make my way towards Rome. I have read forums that suggest taking a train from Vienna to Venice is fun. Would anyone recommend this? Is Venice worth going to in the end of December, or should I skip in light of another city? I have also heard that Florence is a good stop before heading to Rome. I have also heard that maybe I should look into flying directly from Vienna to Rome and just spend the whole second week of my trip in Rome. Can anyone help me out with recommendations on traversing Vienna and Italy in December in a way that would allow me to have the best experience? I am so excited about this trip and want to make sure I am not missing out on seeing anything- but want to do it within my short time frame. Thank you!!!
