need help in map selection
I am trying to order maps and have some map numbers that I copied down from these groups..
The Michelin site has a big map which you click on and fine the proper numbers for the appropriate region. However, my numbers I copied down don't match except for Dordogne. Could someone help and tell me the ones I need in planning? . Trip is to Normandy ( already have a map) to Mt. St. Michel. Then traveling to Dordogne, Carcassone and Provence and back to Paris (by train). Dordogne..ordering Map 329 do I need another? Brittany ??? do we need? If so, which ones? To Carcassone and Albi ?? To Provence from Carcassone?? I understand I can buy maps there but need maps for planning. Some of the areas show 2 numbers?.. Thank you for your help. This all started because I was reading Ira's answer to someone..about Tarn area. Thanks for all the help. |
Hi Lois,
329 is the big map for the Dordogne 337 is a 1/1.5k that is better for the Sarlat area. It also includes the region around Cahors. For Carcassone to Albi I have 344 and 338 I am probably overmapped. You cn find the list of all Michelin maps including France Motoring Atlas for the whole country at http://www.languagequest.com/travele...;region=Europe |
Thanks Ira. My husband still insists he can use his PDA for all this....plus we will have a gps but nothing helps without maps in my hand for planning...

Hi lois,
>My husband still insists he can use his PDA for all this....< Let him get the PDA, load the maps and do the planning. You can concentrate on booking hotels. :) |
Ira..he's not doing his job, :D
Seriously, knowing him he will wait till the last minute. I am the planner. Anyway, he did say he wants an itinerary from me so that is what I am trying to do...it's difficult without the right maps. Thanks. |
Hi lois,
Have you been using the zoomable maps at www.viamichelin.com and www.mappy.com? They also give you driving directions. ((I)) |
Unless you're planning every kilometer of the trip in advance, I don't think for planning purposes you really need anything other than the big Michelin map of the entire country. I've had mine for ages, so maybe the number has changed, but it's #989. The scale is 1/1000000. You can supplement that with Michelin's or Mappy's online maps if you need further detail.

Thanks St Cirq and Ira...! You are saving me lots of time and obsessive worry.
