Hi Zippo,
do you know which airlines are starting the direct flights? |
I'm not Zippo, but I read about this yesterday. It's Continental. There will be four flights per week during the winter, and daily flights the rest of the year. Continental will continue its current New York to Glasgow flights but use a smaller plane for them.

If you lost a day somewhere so you could add a day in Scotland you could do the West Highland rail trip and if you time it right you can use the Jacobite Steam train which would be like being IN HP for your kids!!

Thanks everyone.
I know I will have more questions as the planning gets closer |
You asked about websites: you could start with the official Tourist Authority site:

Planning a little far in advance? It is nearly two years away!
See London, fly to Cornwall for a few nights, then hire a comfortable car. Drive through Devon, up through Wales, stopping at some Northern towns, and tour Scotland. A car gives you flexibillity and choice. Enjoy your trip in a couple of years time! |

yes I am planning a little far in advance. Planning and researching the trip is half the fun for me. It gives me time to look into different areas and itineraries. Read up on the places I think I would like to visit. Sometimes when I start reading, I realize that it's not what I had thought and take it off the plan. Of course sometimes, the itineary goes out the window all together but at least I have the cities and accommodations all taken care of. I won't make any reservations until 2004 sometime, but with life, kids, and work happening, time gets away from me sometimes. |
Makes sense to me!

Plan and dream about your trip as much as you want. The trip will be here and OVER before you know it.
