Many many thanks. I just booked the Tessa. Given that we're talking mid-March, I liked the idea that it is very near bus and metro stops. If the weather is nice, we'll be walking a lot, but if it's rainy, we'll be happy to be near public transportation. I think we can deal with any noise, given that the flat is 10 stories up (plus, I sleep with ear plugs anyway, due to a snoring spouse!)

I found a few available flats that were probably in better locations, but the decor looked "dumpy"; they were smaller, less nicely decorated and more expensive. As I grow older, I am less willing to stay in ugly places. My husband always says "What does it matter what it looks like? We're hardly ever there." But that is not entirely true. I like the idea of a long day of touring, then chilling out in the flat for a few hours before a late dinner. I'll have a much better time if the flat is pretty.

Thanks again for all of your help. My husband (a non-Fodorite) couldn't figure out how I was getting such specific info from maribel and laclaire!

By the way. . . will there be a Dallas reunion when you come? I would totally be into going for a drink.

I just booked the Casp apartment for a long Thanksgiving holiday. Laclaire, any particular reason why you didn't care for the area? It is our first time in Barcelona and we are very much looking forward to it. I just checked the weather and it will apparently be rainy the entire time we are there : (

..I just had my photos developed (yes I still have a film camera..too cheap to buy a digital until this one dies) from my fall trip to Barcelona. I looked at my neighborhoood- the Born- and fell in love again. I would urge you to look at this area. IOt is near the Jaume subway stop.

Hi missypie, I just looked up the tessa apartment and like it as well. How do you know it is on the 10th floor? Please let me know when you return, how you liked the apartment, the area (noise and safety), and how the Habitat people were to work with. We are considering Europe 2008 and our two countries we want to go to are Austria (family) and Spain (primarily Barcelona). There will be 5 of us (two parents, two young teens, and Grandma). So please let me know if you love it or hated it. Have a good trip! Thanks in advance.

Girlonthego, wjh1 just returned from a stay at the Tessa...she responded to one of my other threads and said, "we stayed in the Tessa apartment and I would be happy to answer as many questions as you would like to ask! The apartment was fantastic. We (two adults and our two kids) found it to be perfect. The apartment is on the top floor of the building. It does not face the streetside -- the balcony overlooks the back of the building. Street noise was not a problem at all. There are two elevators and we had one issue and needed something repaired and Habitat sent someone to help us within 10 minutes! Metro stop is across the street although the apartment was also a very walkable distance to many areas."

That is great news and I will put this one at the top of our list. You are going in March of this year? I am curious as to your take on it.
It sounds like exactly what we would be looking for. I like a nice place to come home too like you. My husband will also ask which is cheaper..LOL!!
I am light sleeper. Everyone else sleeps like logs (including Grandma). That is why I like the quiet part of being at the top facing the back of the building.
Thanks so much for the quick response. I wasn't sure if you would see it since it is an older post of yours.
We are going to visit Grandma's family in Austria and spend time touring Austria. We thought that Spain would be a totally different type of country to throw into the trip to experience two very different countries. I have one teen taking Spanish and the other is starting German next fall. So I will have my translators
Thanks again.

Missypie, I just read Wendy's report to you on the apartment and it sounds good. Please post back after your trip!
