Need help for unforgettable trip in PARIS

Hi everyone,

I'm travelling for the first time to Paris (for 6 days) and I really would like to feel the parisian way of life!

Do you think I should buy a paper guide or only walking in Paris would be enough?
Should I manage to get internet there or it's well indicated and I don't need google map?
Do you know any websites with good adresses to go out ? (local restaurant, bars, events, unusual places). Or even better a mobile app which works as a tourist guide book ?
What do you advice me to do/eat/experience which is typical for Paris (I mean not only for tourists)?

I've already been in Prague and I regret I didn't know some things like the oppening hours, do you have the same travel experiences as me? What did you regret to not know while you were abroad?

Thanks for your help and any tips you have :)

Amanda

Amanda, many people here enjoy researching and planning their trips.

I would recommend that you do get a guidebook, and either take it with you, or write down the opening times of the things you plan on doing. It's a darn shame to get some place that is closed.

Are you saying that you would just walk without a map? I wouldn't do that and I've been to Paris several times. At the very least, a laminated Streetwise Paris map will help.

I know little about the Parisian way of life; I know more about the tourist in Paris way of life.

A very good website is the very one you are on. See Destinations, the Paris. Another I like for events and things with a younger vibe is

I think they may have an app.

Do you have a phone with GPS and a PLAN that doesn't charge a fortune for data use?

I would definitely get a guidebook and a map. Take the map wih you, or course.

And, yes, do research opening times / days. For instance, the Louvre is closed on Tuesdays and opened late Wed & Fri. Musee d'Orsay is closed Mondays and opened late on Thursday. So it is important to plan where you are going somewhat.

No matter where you go, eat, visit you will be around tourists and locals alike.

Yes, you can get the internet. I think most hotels provide it free but you'd have to check your hotel. You can also usually get it in public parks and some cafes.

Depending on where you are traveling from it isn't wise to plan much for the first day. Read up on the Metro and Bus and how to use them. They are the best way to get around to places aren't in walking distance or if you are just tired.
