Need Help for Scotland

I need some help on where to stay in Scotland. Here's my situation:

We would like to stay in a town (1-1.5 hours away), preferable in the country, near either Glasgow or Edinburgh, since we'll be arriving into one of these cities.

We'll be traveling in Aug (26-29) with our 10 month old, and will rent a car.

So can someone recommend some townes and accommodations (B&B's, cottages, guest houses etc.) that are child friendly that we might enjoy. Thanks!

Bring some insect repellent if your are near water - the midges aren't dangerous, but their bites could make a 10 month old miserable.

I don't know Scotland well, but there are many beautiful places that meet your needs, I don't think you will go far wrong.

Dunkeld. About an hour and a half from Edinburgh. Not midge ridden. Pretty town on banks of Tay. Lots of nice things to do round about. Wide variety of accommodation. Lots of history. Near the mountains and the lochs; easy commute to the shops.

Try the Ednam House Hotel in Kelso - about 1.5 hours south and slightly east of Edinburgh. Fabulous place, great grounds, good food. You can find it on Fodor's.

Callender. Nice little town. Stay at Leny Lodge B&B - very nice located on a farm just outside town.
