I'm not that far behind you, Dutyfree, but I don't take offense because I think the posters have been good at telling the age of their mothers (61, 70+, 80) when they took their trips and what their experiences were. Physical condition is more important than age, of course. We took my 20+ nephew and his girlfriend with us on a trip last year and she had to rest some afternoons while we were out and about. I remember by 20+ niece pleading to take taxis at times, such as when I would say, "it's only a mile or two back to the hotel" in Rome or "we can wheel our bags to the train station" in Boston.
travel_italy said her mother "is looking for a relaxing trip, while still seeing the major sites. She doesn't want to run around the whole trip! looking for really good food and breathtaking experiences. We have thought about spending some down time--just to even out the sightseeing."
That says to me--slow pace, some sightseeing, leisurely meals, riding to a scenic spot to sit and enjoy the view and the people--more passive experiences--rather than packed days with lots of sights, walking, and active experiences.
