Need Help Finding Lodging in Munich
 

I am looking to book four nights or so in Munich for June. I want the hotel to be in the city center, but am not willing to pay more than $150. Does anyone have any good suggestions? Also if possible, a B&B or other family-run place would be great.

What dates are you looking at? The World Cup is going on in June and rooms might be tough.

Either the last week of May or first week of June for four days. It is our first stop on the way to touring the Bavarian countryside and then onto Austria. I was thinking about Hotel Am Markt, but was not sure.

We stayed in the Hotel Uhland right next to the Oktoberfest grounds. We couldn't have been happier with it. Nice quiet street, charming converted mansion feel, good breakfast and reasonably priced. If I recall correctly, it was about a 15 minute walk to the Historic center.

In addition to the Hotel Uhland you might try the Hotel Schlicker which is more centrally located. The Hotel Seibel is also nice, located close to the Uhland.

Look at OctopusTravel.com to see some of the hotels. One of our favorites near the hauptbahnhof is the Drei Lowen. A double there is well within your price range (if they have rooms avaialble).

The Uhland is also good but a little further away. I see a lot of good comments about La Meridian which is also close to the train station and near the Karlstor end of the fussganger zone.

We stayed last June at the Hotel Europaischer Hof. It's across the street and just down a bit from the train station, making everything within walking distance. It doesn't look like much but the rooms are very large and very clean. Very comfortable beds. Nice breakfast.

There's a hostel across the alley (next door) that's a bit loud. Either try to get a room on a high floor or ask for one opposite that building.

I am staying at the Hotel Isartor around that time. The prices are reasonable, and it is located about 5 minutes walking to the Marienplatz. I'm pretty sure. I know it is close. It is also close to the Hofbrauhaus ;)

Forget the LeMeridien..there is no way you'll get that hotel within your budget.

You might try the Acanthus.

Hi, check out www.hrs.de and www.expedia.de to get an impression about rates and offers for your time of staying in Munich. Munich will be the base for all of the Media which will cover the World cup 2006. Media will usually arrive 1 month and more before the tournament which will affect on hotel vacancies. You should hurry up when you will get a hotel with good quality and reasonable price. I would suggest to check out Accor Hotels as well. Accor has got different hotels in Munich of different qualities and locations. Prices are quite reasonable.
Munich has got a good subway/bus/train-system so that you do not necessary have to stay RIGHT in the middle of the city. Hotels with 10km distance to Marienplatz (city centre) and a conntects to subway/bus/train (check out mvv-muenchen.de) will be fine.
Have fun staying in Munich. I moved here some years ago and still love it a lot. (And forget about Hofbraeuhaus, thats a typical tourist thing. You can find a lot of better places with better beer, better food and real bavarian life at any other place all over the city!)
