It might help to know where the first part of the honeymoon is happening, and when all this is happening.

We are starting in London, England, taking a day trip to Paris, France and flying out to Italy but we want to find a place to stay first before we book the plane tickets.

We are leaving next Saturday.

So you want a beach in Italy? Where in Italy are you flying home from. It doesn't make sense to recommend a place on the Italian Riviera if you're flying home from Naples.

You're not going to get a sand beach and probably don't want one, but the biggest area for coastal villa rentals in Italy is in the Amalfi, and its adjacent islands. You can also look further down the coast (in and around Salerno) if you are priced out of Amalfi.

That said, it might be more convenient if you stuck near France and checked out villas in and around San Remo, Borghidera and Ospedale.

For B&Bs, your choices are really endless, if they have availability, and you should be able to get a break on a full week's stay.

Get out a map and check the names of towns in between Genoa and just short of La Spezia, avoiding those two cities themselves.

Good luck!

It sounds like you are panicking. Take a deep breath and check where these places are on a map and see if you can get there, bearing in mind your other trip plans:

Lipari (Aeolian Islands off the coast of Sicily). Lipari is lovely.

Taormina - Sicily. Taormina is at the top of a mountain with fantastic views, quite romantic. There are beaches at the bottom, via cable car, bus or taxi.

Amalfi coast, south of Naples - towns to try are Sorrento, Positano, Amalfi etc.

Santa Margherita Ligure, Portofino, Cinque Terre, all near Genoa in Italy.

Just some ideas but have just realised it will be August when you go which is high season in Europe so your chances of getting something are more difficult.

Have you thought about Nice, on the coast in southern France? No sand, only pebbles but very popular. We stayed at a lovely apartment we booked through www.nicepebbles.com

Also try this website for ideas of places to stay www.slowtrav.com

Good luck with it all.

PS. Try I Tre Merli in Camogli, a B&B

And why did you wait until one week prior your honeymoon to try and find somewhere to stay? Good luck, August is the vacation month in Europe and I'm sure most places will already be booked.

Driving from Ferrara to Urbino, we took S16 along the Adriatic coast and in order to see the sea we took the much smaller coast road through some of the towns on the water. We stopped at Milano Marittima to put our feet in the water and have lunch. If it's sand you want, they have lots. We didn't spend a lot time there but it seem to be an upscale resort town with tree lined, shady streets and lush gardens. Boutique shops and beautiful people. And it was August and crowded. No more so than any Stateside beach town, though. And, if you have a car, the location allows you to explore Le Marche which is simply amazing!
