Need help choosing the right arrondissement, Paris experts help!!
 

I'm going to Paris in March, but I have no clue what arrondissement to stay in. I do know that since I've never been there I should try and stay close to the major attractions. So, what would you suggest 1-9?

I'd like to stay in an apartment or rental, but it's hard to choose since I'm not sure what part of the city is best for me. I'm in my late 20's, shopping is very important to me on this trip (BUT-not prada and all that...I want the home decor flea markets, preferably where I can get a good deal on some things to bring home!), as well as a nice view, victorian architecture, and having cafes/markets close by. One more thing...if I go March 16-30 will the city be green? I don't mind it being a little chilly, I just don't want everything to be dead! Especially since I'd like to go to Versailles.

I'd say the 4th. You are correct in saying that 1-9 are fine, I find some of the area around the Louvre a bit less interesting that other areas. 5th/6th good too.

Paris Perfect has great apartments, mostly in the 7th. They often offer 30-40% off sales for booking 7 nights. If you don't need 2 bed/2 bath, you could get a great apartment. During the time you want to go, it would be considered low season for them, so if you book in advance, you could get something great.

I do love the area that your Haven in Paris apartment is in.
I love the 6th for the cafes and great boutiques. Close to everything and the apartment you are considering is close to the Odeon Metro stop.

Any area will have pros and cons but you are right to start in 1-9, and I agree with Michel that 4-6 may be just right for you.

You might take a look at the left bank hotel thread by Guenmai, for hotel possibilities. Any time of year is great for Paris!! I have been in December and August and we are going again in November...the city is wonderful regardless of weather the leaves are green.

This year it was in the 70's the last week in March, but you can't expect that. But it id likely to be at least pale green.

I think you ought to stay in the Marais (3rd or 4th, depending) or the 6th. Both have numbers of home/design/fabric/clothing boutiques.

You don't state your budget, do you?

Victorian architecture?

Beaux Arts maybe, or Iron Gothic...

I don't need 2 bed/bath, just my husband and I. I just really loved the style of that apartment! The Paris Perfect apts do look very nice tho. Is the 7th within walking distance of 4-6?

My budget is not set, but I'd prefer to keep it between $200-$300 a night.

I'm no architecture major, I just know I like it pretty! Any recommended off the beaten path flea markets would be great also.

Um, Victorian would be England. Baron Haussmann redesigned (many would say ruined) many of the older neighborhoods in paris in the 1870s - when they built all of those very typical 6 story apartment houses and laid out the Grands Boulevards.

IMHO the most interesting architecture (and the oldest buildings) can be found mostly on the left bank (5 through 7) or the Ile de la Cite (4th).
