Need Help Calling Italy

Do you drop the first zero like you do in France and Holland when calling Italy? i.e. 011-39-0323 or 39-323 etc.

Where are you calling from?

(and don't say "a booth in the Midwest. . .")

OK, you found me out!

Actually, I'm calling from the US to Italy.

Hi drempel, if you are calling Italy from the US you dial 011-39-O## etc. No you do not drop the zero. I know, I just called Italy this afternoon.

Drempel, I am assuming that the phone # you have is to a land phone. If you are calling a cellphone # in Italy and that person has given you their cell phone # and it does not have a zero after the 39 (country code for Italy) than "NO" you would not include the zero. In otherwords, a friend of mine in Florence that I talked to today. His house (land) phone # is 011-39-055 etc. His cell phone # is 011-39-393 etc.

Drempel----thanks for catching the joke. (Are you Bob Dylan's alter-ego?) I hope your call went through OK.

can I ask about calling in Paris? I was given a cell phone # for a contact in Paris and it had a 0, ie 06 19 98 11 11. We have a family emergency so I want to be able to tell my chidren in the US how to reach us through this person. the way i understand it from the US it would be 011-33-1 plus the number in Paris. But for a cell would it be 011 33-06 etc or just 6? Thanks for any info.

The 011 is to reach the international "operator" from the U.S. Then you use the country code (33). Generally the next "0" is dropped when calling from outside the "33" area.

Thanks to all for the clarification. I get to sit here at my desk at home while DH is off to a *meeting* on Lago Maggiore. Sigh.
