Need help building a German Framework Route
 

Time of year: June
Starting in: Fussen
Ending in: Munich
Days available: 2-4
Ideal: Find a place to stay in one location as home-base and just go exploring during the day
NOTE: We'll either be starting OR ending our trip in Austria

I get lost in all of the photos and would love some experienced based help. :)

Fachwerk? Is this what you mean by framework? I know this as half-timbering or Fachwerk. There is a website which talks about the different routes. If you are looking for Fachwerk I don't think the areas you mention are the best for this style - Bavarian houses are more of the chalet type. Have a look here:

Also look at the tab 'Routes and Cities' to get an idea of the cities that are the best. I have to emphasise that these cities are representative, there is Fachwerk all over the place, and it varies in style between north and south. Some areas also go in for slate tiles on sides of buildings too.

If you just want suggestions for Füssen to Munich, that is one thing, but if you are looking for specific architecture, let us know!

I will retract some of what I wrote above - the Romantic Road connects cities which have Fachwerk, and this is probably what you have been looking at. The road itself is not an attraction, it's marketing in the 1950s that came up with this term.

2 - 4 days is not a lot of time. Will you have a car?
You'll find a lot of beautiful old houses, also half-timbered, in Füssen.
You could visit Neuschwanstein Castle, but you have to book your timed entrance ticket in advance.
You also could visit the town of Garmisch, where you also can see pretty houses.
Or Oberammergau, even Mittenwald comes in mind.

The English term is half-timbered if OP means Fachwerk.

We loved Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Cute towns although a bit touristy. We stayed at the Hotel am Badersee and took the shuttle bus around town and to the trailhead for hiking at Hollental (Hell’s Gorge).
