Need help-Bath to Oxford
Is there bus or train service (not a tour) from Bath to Oxford? I've checked National Express bus website and can't figure it out. Will be in Bath on March 17th and want to go to Oxford to spend night. Suggestions? Also, will bus or train service from Oxford to London be a problem on a Sunday? Which is more readily available?

You can go most easily by train, changing in Reading or Didcot Parkway.
There is train service from Oxford to London on Sundays, but the frequency is not as great as on weekdays. |
Good info above - in addition, there is also very good bus service from Oxford to London. One is called the Oxford Tube (nothing to do w/ the the London Underground. It is just the bus' name)

In June 2005 we traveled through Britain by train. The two routes you asked about are very easy to do with the change mentioned by musicteacher.
The Oxford station is a bit out of the way so plan ahead. It is walkable from some parts of town. We purchased a rail pass before leaving the US (that is the least expensive way) and it made our travel much less stressful. If you use the express train from the airport it is a big savings. Have a great trip - we loved Bath. |
"<i>We purchased a rail pass before leaving the US (that is the least expensive way)</i>" Not necessarily. Rail passes generally aren't a bargain -- unless one is taking a lot of long distance trips. Most of the time, point-to-point tickets will be cheaper than the rail passes marketed in the States. And even more so if the tickets are purchased in advance.

Hi SC - There's one direct afternoon bus service (National Express) between Bath and Oxford, journey time 2 hrs.
Dep. 17.05 Arr. 19.05 Fare: £9.20 If the times suite, this will be much cheaper than train ... Here's the link: http://www.nationalexpress.com/bp/b2.cfm?id=81853206 Hope this helps ... Steve |
I love this message board! I can get so much more information from other savvy travelers than I can obtain from reading my travel books and magazines. Thank you so much for the helpful suggestions.
