Need Help - B&B near Pitlochry (Scotland)
Well, I'm bummed.
I had a reservation (confirmed via email) at a Castle B&B for the weekend (Friday-Saturday-Sunday nights) of 26 May, at 35 GBP per person (four adults, two rooms). Confirmed by the B&B host (via email) in March.
On Friday, I received an email, basically saying "sorry, my wife booked someone else into the rooms."
I've written back for more info (and, essentially, pleading for my booking to be restored), but have not gotten a reply (all other email replies while making the booking were within hours of my email, and this has been three full days).
So, I guess I now need to find other arrangements for that weekend. (A Bank Holiday, no less.)
Help!
I have tickets at the Pitlochry Festival Theatre for Friday night. I also want to attend the Parade and Highland Games at Blair Castle on Saturday and Sunday.
So, staying somewhere near Pitlochry is essential. By "near," I mean within an hour or so - we'll be doing some wandering all three days, too, so don't mind a bit of a drive back and forth.
The 35 GBP per person is our max, and we tend to prefer small B&B's with character (old buildings, owners with sheepdogs, an interesting garden...just something to make it stand out from the rest).
Of course, I've been looking online (and did so before booking the castle), but am finding many places already sold out.
So, I'm turning to my fodors friends to give me the scoop. Maybe you know a place that isn't on all the email lists? Or you have a recommendation from a friend or relative?
Please give me some ideas.
Thanks.
Gayle
(And now I have to tell my parents - almost 80 years old - that, no, we're not actually going to stay in a castle. They were so excited when I told them about it...sigh...)

so sorry - I HATE it when that happens.
A couple of suggestions. Call the Castle B&B (Often e-mails just don't get as quick a response) - not to plead for a room - but to ask if they have a place to send you. Very often B&Bs can refer folks to nearby accomodations.
also try these

and this one which is very nice and just a tiny bit over your max (£36 - £38 pp)

Thanks, Sheila.
Yes, indeed, Craighall is the "bad guy." Was that just an educated guess, or have similar things happened with them before?
I will check out the ones you've mentioned. And, yes, there are a lot of places in/near Pitlochry, but I had tried quite a few before booking Craighall and they had no availability. I assume that the Blair Castle activities mean that many people have booked in advance.
I'll check out everything you and Janis suggested, and appreciate your help.

Well, I found a B&B that sounds really nice - 17th century, 3 rooms, and it's in Dunkeld (or nearby). So, I went ahead and booked it, with my fingers crossed. (I found it on the "visit Scotland" site.)
It's called "Upper Hatton."
I did check all the suggestions, Janis and Sheila, and GREATLY appreciate them. Unfortunately, none of them worked for me - some not available for my specific dates and others for my own weird reasons (for instance, I loved some of the self-catering places you two mentioned, but I'm just not in self-catering mode for this trip).
Anyway, I feel more comfortable now that I know we have a place to "lay our heads." But I'm still pretty ticked off at the folks from Craighall.
Thanks again.
