Need help addressing mail to Venice
 

Could somebody please help me with an Venice Address.

I have googled the address for a gallery several times and each time it is different.
I know the street number and postal code. It is an address in the Castello section of Venice. Do I need to put Castello anywhere on the address? It is included on all of the addresses I find on the websites, before the street name and number and city.
Please help.

All you need to address a letter to Venice is the sestiere (i.e., Castello), the number in Castello, and the postal code.

Street addresses are only given to make it easier for ordinary mortals to find the place; mailmen operate purely on sestiere numbers.

P.S. I should clarify that the "street number" is really the sestiere number. For example, Castello 1234 would be a perfectly adequate address even if the address you have is Calle della Pieta 1234, Castello.

Italy

Do I leave out "Via Garibaldi" and "Venice"?

Hi gunk, having lots of friends and also family by marriage in Italy, and many friends in the region of Veneto here is how you address the envelope:

Name (family or business)
Address (street and then the number of the house or business).
Postal Code and then the City.
Country (in this case Italy if mailing from the US).

Thanks. Dp youthink any of your friends inVenice would know the name of the little shop that sells marbled paper, ink, pens sealing wax and stamps and beautiful leather bound journals. It is on the way from St. Mark's Square to the Rialto Bridge and the thing that distinguishes it from other paper shops are the huge marionettes in the window, a fox and a cat (from the Pinocchio story)

No, sorry, it's not that one. it is north of St. Mark's Square. I remember we left the Square at a shop that had a huge clear glass nude in the window,past the Salvadore Dali Gallery. Then we walked until we were facing a huge expensive store and had to turn either left or right. I can't remember if it was Lacoste, Prada, Armani. Something very expensive. We went left and the store wasn't far past it on the left side of the street. I did this once before and swore I would remember to get a business card or something to remember it.
