Need directions from Kensington to Windsor Castle
Need directions for easiest way to get from Templeton Place in Kensington to Windsor Castle, best day to go, cost, what to definitely see there, take tour or go independently. Thank you. Also, posted question whether anyone knew why British Shrinkers canceled two day trip to Paris, however, no one has answered yet. Please respond if anyone has any ideas. Thank you again.

Don'think of driving. Take the Tube to Waterloo and get a return ticket from there. Shouldn't cost you more than about £12 for the whole journey. (The tube ticket is separate from your train ticket.)

No point in taking an organised tour. You will be squashed on a coach and will have less freedom to do as you please.

I would suggest a weekday rather than Saturday. Sunday is also good, but still might be busy with tourists.

Thank you Nigel for your info.

The fastest way is the way Nigel suggested. Alternately you could take a bus from Victoria, green line, I think. It is slower but you see more. I prefere the slower buses even in London to the tube unles I'm in a hurry, much more fun.

No tour is necessary, it is a small place, and on your own you can do it at your own pace and maybe discover some place you would have misssed being herded around.

MAke sure you walk across the bridge to eton, if the boys are in school it is fun to see them on the street, Say Hi to Prince Harry if you see him!

Could we take the bus from Victoria to Windsor and then be able to take the train back in the evening? If we could do this we would be able to see some of the countryside.
|
Sure,

Just buy a 1 way ticket on bus, in fact I think you just pay the driver as I recall, then pick up a single train ticket at Windsor rail station. By the way there are some neat shops in the rail station ..or maybe the rail statiion is in with the shops! whatever they certainly made it an invinting place to wait for a train

I'm with Nigel. Train is super efficient way to get to and from Windsor.
|
Can't you go go from Paddington? I believe it was a quick half hour trip. Definitely go when the shops are open around the train stations! Do take the tours inside the castle, as they are most informative. Try to determine the time for the changing of the guard; it is a much closer and relaxed view than at Buckingham Palace!

Bus there and train back is fine, but remember that taking a one way train journey will cost you almost as much as a round trip. That is the mad way they sort out their fares over here!
