Need cheap sleep Paris!
My wife and I will be in Paris Sept 6 for 1 night, than again Sept 17 for 3 nights, as bookends for our biking trip in Provence. We usually spend very little time in our room and wish to spend very little money on the room cost (rather spend it on food, admissions, etc.) We want a clean, inexpensive room with a toliet and shower well located. Any suggestions?
Merci in advance. GaryH |
Hi Gary,
What's your budget? |
ira,
My budget has always been as good as it gets. Initial thoughts are around 60 Euros. Looking for safe well located and clean! GaryH |
perhaps 5 euros more than that will get you a room at the Grand Hotel Jeanne d'Arc, in the Marais (4th).
I've never read a bad thing about it, other than comments on the small size of their rooms. |
Merci Elaine,
The 60 Euros is not set in stone but rather a benchmark I would like to stay near. I just tried reserving thru some service on the net and was told it was full at both times. I thinl I will try to book it another way. I can not find a web site for the hotel. Do you know? |
..call Jeanne d'arc...pnone can be found through pagesjaunes.fr..i doubt that you will have any luck unless they have had a recent cancellation..and their doubles are closer to 80 euro...try venere.com or ratestogo.com for some last minute deals...

Hi Gary,
You can call the hotel at 01 48 87 62 11 |
Check the entry in the Superthread (the second to last entry at the moment) called "Budget Hotels in Paris":
http://www.fodors.com/forums/pgMessa...p;tid=34519236 I recently had to deal with this. I just booked a room for 55 Euros at Hotel de Lille/Pelican. Don't know how it is though. Also check out some of the links in the previous threads. Time Out Paris also has a bunch of budget listings (it's the guide book -- get a copy if you don't have one or look through one at the bookstore). |
This is a popular budget hotel:
Hotel Port Royal 5th http://en.federal-hotel.com/hotel_ho...paris_1559.htm http://www.paris.org/Hotels/hotel.cg...01127775707075 http://www.bonjourparis.com/pages/ar...ce_Port_Royal_ Esmeralda_$100_Latin_Quarter_charm_laundry_service _hotel_de_charm.php " . . .Purists would not consider this hotel to be located smack dab in the midst of the Latin Quarter. However for my taste, it's closed enough, considering the price. There are 48 spotless nicely decorated rooms. Half of them have ensuite bathroom facilities. If you don't mind sharing a toilet or shower (and there are enough so one doesn't have to wait), the cost of a double room is less than $50 per night. The hotel offers many extra (including a terrace where to relax). Attention: Bring cash or a Euro check. Cash speaks! . . . " http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...04Mar26_4.html The immaculate Port-Royal is well maintained by the Giraud family. Most of its 46 rooms were recently refurbished with modern but tasteful wrought-iron beds, mirrors and armoires. The lobby is impressively outfitted with antiques, and metal patio chairs and a parasol await in the interior courtyard. The hotel is in a lively neighborhood at the southern edge of the Latin Quarter and is a short walk to the Rue Mouffetard street market. No room TVs and no credit cards accepted. |
Hotel du Septieme Art in the Marais has doubles with shower (no bath) for about 75 euro. Excellent location, nice people, clean hotel. |
Try Hôtel de France in the 7th (www.hoteldefrance.com). I believe it's 72 euros for a single with bath. I'm a regular there and think it's a great value.

Hotel Marignan on rue du Sommerard in the 5th arrondissement is a clean, well-located bargain with access to a kitchen and laundry facilities.

Did you use the hotels thread here at Fodors.com? It has a summary and guest reviews, that's how I found mine. I stayed at Residence Les Gobelins, and you can read my room review there.

Some more budget hotels to consider, most of them outside central touristy areas (should be easy to reach by metro):
Hotel Residence les Gobelins (13eme, just outside the 5eme), I'm staying there in 2 weeks. Staff has been very nice so far. www.hotelgobelins.com Another one nearby, Carofftel Gobelins: http://www.123france.com/123/en/hotel.php?id_hot=888 In the 5eme, Hotel du Mont Blanc: http://www.france-hotel-guide.com/h75005montblanc.htm In the Nation area, the 12eme - Hotel du Prince Eugene: http://www.france-hotel-guide.com/h7...nce_eugene.htm Hotel Agate: http://www.123france.com/123/en/hotel.php?id_hot=493 (exactly 60 Euros for a double room) Lux Hotel Picpus: http://www.france-hotel-guide.com/h75012lux.htm Hotel Royal Bel Air: http://hotel-paris-royalbelair.com/index-gb.htm In the 15eme, walkabale to the 7eme, Hotel Pacific: http://www.123france.com/123/en/hotel.php?id_hot=1037 Good Websites to look for hotels: http://www.123france.com/123/fr/recherch e.php?ville=Paris http://www.france-hotel-guide.com/index.html Good luck! |
Hotel St Andre des Arts on the street of the same name in the 6th might be around that price. I stayed there in a quad which was €105 a couple of years ago. Price includes a small breakfast which is not usually included in Paris hotel prices. The sites 123france.com and france-hotel-guide.com are my favorites for Paris.

Hello Gary!!
There is a lot of threads concerning the Hotel Sainte Marie on other forums...and maybe too in this one...maybe look at this hotel..it is particularly cheap and clean...! |
These two look good to me; I'm trying to decide between them for a trip around Xmas. Here's some info i've found, maybe it'll help you:
(1) Hotel de Roubaix: http://www.hotel-de-roubaix.com/index.htm http://www.eurocheapo.com/paris/list...on/roubaix.asp http://www.paris.org/Hotels/hotel.cg...20017775707073 (2) Hotel Sainte Marie: http://www.hotelsearch-in-paris.com/...amp;language=1 http://www.abc-paris.com/france/pari...hotel_496.htm# http://www.paris.org/Hotels/hotel.cg...22057775707072 (These sites have been very useful in my research.) Good luck! Let us know how it goes when you return! |
About the Saint Marie. A poster sent me a photo of the bedroom they stayed in recently (2004) and it was nothing like the photos on their website. I canceled my reservations. Her triple was a third bed squeezed next to 2 others, so that you had crawl across them to get to the third bed and they were all pushed together perpendicularly. Clearly a very small room and nothing like the very nice ones shown on their website. She did say it was clean and she would stay again. So that was very good. Also 4 flights without elevator was a bit much for me now days. I did that in Paris 20 years ago, but not any longer.

Here you may find an usefull list of accommodation with many beatiful photos www.parisby.com
Good luck! |
