Hi, check out the Hotel Agora, 462 Singel. We stayed there last year and loved it.

We stayed at the Park Hotel in 1997. We had a triple for $150 which included a great breakfast. It is very central on the Leidespl. Square (spelling is not good), across the street from the Casino, canal, restaurants, near the Riks museum, diamond tours and walking distance to Heineken Brewery tours. The staff was very friendly and helpful and we would go back again.

I stayed in the Canal Crown Hotel (519-525 Herengracht), and it was wonderful. The room and bathroom were the best I've had in Europe, the staff was very courteous and friendly, and their breakfast buffet was superb.

The Doelen Hotel (Nieuwdoelenstraat) is
a grand old place, quiet, at the bottom
of the old city near redlight.Breakfast
room has wonderful view - ask for canal facing room for view.
The Pulitzer & the Estheria are well
situated - the Estheria is a bit cramped but that's normal in A'Dam.Use
the "rough guide to amsterdam"

Just returned from Amsterdam. I stayed at the Canal House Hotel on the Keizergracht (near the Anne Frank House). It's a nice place with 26 rooms though rates on the high end of your scale -- it was NLG 295 (about $140). I had a canal-front room. It was sweet.

I also just returned from Amsterdam and had a great stay at the Hotel Ambassade. I know there has been someone on the internet that didn't like it, but I thought it was more than nice.
