Need B & B recommendations for Dublin
 

Mt husband and I, along with our two sons, are going to Ireland in August. I have several great recommendations for B & Bs in Dingle, Doolin, and Kenmare, but need help with Dublin and Galway.

Anyone stay in a place that you would recommend?

Avoid Gardiner street. Try some of the hotels as well as it may be as good a price. For example Jury's hotel. Also Trinity College in Dublin rents out the student accommodation during the summer and they are actually quite nice and centrally located. the price is right too! WWW.tcd.ie/accommodation

I am wondering if these places are still recommended. One of them was for a visit in March.

Personally, I like the quaint, non-traditional kind of B&B's that are perfectly located in the heart of everything. I am not sure the above suggestions fit the bill. I am trying to keep it around 125 Euros.

Don't stay in the toenhouse. The area is not where I would reccommend and these types of places look better than they actually are. The Towwnhouse is on Gardiner street which can get a bit iffey at night. O'Neills is one of my regular pubs for after work. i like it and the food is pretty good. I know about the B&B above and i would give it a go. The location is great and if its run as well as the pub it should be good.

Oh also the best valuer and location in Dublin is Trinity College. The rooms are nicer than the average college accommodation and can be found at www.tcd.ie/accommodation

Thanks for your insight on the Townhouse. I wondered, since the OP that recommended it also said there was a hostel attached.

Trinity College sounds nice but I am confused, is it like a B&B or a hotel? The website says it has 800 rooms. Are these dorm rooms? We are looking for something quiet.

What about Baggot Court? O'Neill's is my first choice, but they are not returning my inquiries yet, so I am looking for a backup. Thank you!

Shanley, yes, please post if you find anything that looks good. I am having a tough time. Townhouse looked good but apparently location is not. And O'Neill's is not responsive. That website I sent you only has a few that are in Centre City.... Anyway, good luck to you!

I have O'Neill's Victorian booked for July 5-9th. I'll let you know how it went!

They were very responsive to me, though I had to wait a day (I would imagine they are very busy during the day, having the pub as well).

From what Tripadvisor says, it's run by several brothers. They seemed great to me!

Try a B & B in Portmonak. It is has a tr4ain station that will take you right into Dublin and it is nice coast loaction. We stayed there with two teenagers, can't remember the name of the place but we had plenty of room, food and hospitality. The kids loved it

Portmarnock is lovely but Miles outside Dublin city. The townhouse I go by on the bus a lot and I could not see the hostel but if there is one attached that should tell you its more a downmarket place.

Be Patient with O'Neills they may not be on the PC all day but will get back. What is baggott court...not sure I know this one?

Trinity college rents the student accommodation out in the summer but its not as horrible as U.S. dorm rooms. Check it out on the site and mail them for some info. It will not be noisy and is the best location and value in the summer months.

It's got a great location - Sth Great George's St has some great pubs and restaurants (for locals - tourists tend to go to Temple Bar which Dubliners avoid like the plague). The downside is that it may be a bit noisy.

Less lively, but still in a good location is this one - http://www.trinitylodge.com/main.htm - which fills up quite quickly.

I second Siobhan's suggestion about avoiding Gardiner street. Try www.jurys.com for Jury's Inns - the Christchurch one has a good location but tends to get a lot of stag parties from the UK.

Just to add to what Siobhan said about Trinity College accommodation, try to aim for rooms in the older part of the campus - they may not be a luxurious as the newer accommodation but you're right in the heart of the college which is a lot more fun.

I agree with Siobhan on the Gardiner Street Issue, in fact I would stay well out of O'Connell street. Its best to stay about 10mins out of the city centre. I've recommended Kilronan House to several of my friends and they all loved it. Here is the website.

I've been corresponding with Gerry for my reservations, at 'oneilpub REMOVE @iol.ie'. Is that who you contacted for O'Neills?

We just got back and had reservations at Kilronan House, however when we got there, renovations were not complete. Owner so apologetic, arranged a room and paid for taxi to take us to Waterloo House. Very nice 90 Euro for two. Right on the bus line so no problem getting into town, was about 10 minutes. Located on Waterloo St.

Trinity Lodge is very nice on S Frederick street which is a quiet side street by the college. It may be pricier than a B&B but I reccommend it to a lot of visitors coming over to my place of work.

As for Trinity Accommodation I would ask for the older rooms but i think they keep some aside for academics and visitors and the frint square rooms are still being renovated but would be great if finished by your visit. I don't think they will guarantee the older rooms but all are quite nice and ventral and great value.

I think I know Waterloo B&B from my days working in a nearby office. It looks nice but my only problem with the road is at night, some of you dubs will know :-). Lets just say its a street full of miooion euro houses with the occasional girs in the evening near the bus stop looking to earn money. Its discreet enough but I always thought it was weird for such and expensive area.

I am dying to know after someone stays in Grafton Guesthouse. Its a fantastic location, good price but had some iffey reviews a while back on tripadvisor. I would try it from the look of the webpage.

Overall keep trying O'Neills as well.

GreenDragon, just saw your question about O'Neills. I sent an inquiry through their website 4 days ago and have not heard whether it is available or not. I think I could book through that B&B link above, but I was wondering if I would get a better rate booking directly through O'Neills. Right now it looks like 250 Euros for 2 nights.

O'Neills took us in a triple (there's three of us) for E120 a night in June.
