Need Apartment with Paris Balcony for Family of Five - Not tourist central
 

I messed up and didn't respond quickly enough to book the Paris apartment my family has enjoyed before in a neighborly part of the 18th. The key feature is a balcony. Super duper small, but still a perch to look out over the roof tops and on the street below. I am talking ordinary views,,,,,

The agency has another in the 18th but they do say, and reviews confirm, that its proximity to Sacre Couer means there is a lot of tourist traffic and t-shirt shops etc. But it does have balcony. It is also smaller apparently than the one we've rented before and that one was pretty small.... Also there is another apartment in the 18th but more neighborhoody and with more space but no balcony. Nice windows but on to a courtyard and not onto a street. My kids just love watching the street life below, so street noise isn't an issue.

SO... my mission today is to find an alternate apartment for 5 (one kid can be on the couch in the living room). Clean and a balcony are main requirements. We are flexible on neighborhood, happy to take Metro. Don't want to feel part of a tourist super-highway.

This is for June and we are flexible on dates 6/7-6/25... not sure yet how long we'll be there. It's part of a month in Europe and we're flex on time in Paris......

Have you tried Paris Deluxe? We stayed in one of their apartments in the Marais and loved it. The neighborhood was not at all touristy and gave us the opportunity to feel like a local. (The apartment slept 5 but didn't have a balcony; you can open the enormous windows and peek over the railings onto the courtyard or street.) Good luck!

flpab.. Thank you! that apartment is totally beautiful and scores big on the balcony!!! It looks quite to be in the tourist central and while I was in my head thinking we were ready to pay whatever...... For five of us it's a bit higher than I'd like. Also posher than we need.... But still in the running.

sfmasterG, no I didn't stay in that apt, it's just a website I knew and I saw they had one that seemed to fit your criteria, that's all. I've only stayed in a couple and they were much smaller than that.

We like the 14th but the price of this is good. I have used flipkey in Paris but like vcationinparis because they are out of NJ, was so easy using them and our landlord was legit.

If you like seeing street life, you should accept apartments even on busy streets. When the double glazed windows are closed, the noise goes away.

I would never want an apartment on a courtyard. My own apartment is at the point of an intersection and has windows on 3 different streets. It's one of the reasons that I chose to buy it.

Kerouac it's not busyness per se that I am concerned about. It's just that the busyness is described as tourist traffic heading to Sacre Coeur and that the street has several souvenir shops and t-shirt shops.

The last apartment listed by flpab looks fabulous, will need to convince family to consider staying in different part of town....

I hae an apt on a courtyard once and it was great -- because the address was rue Mouffetard. SO it would be really noisy if you looked right out onto it, but my apt was in a building where you entered through an outside large wooden door into a large courtyard that had apts in a U shape around it -- mine was even in the rear of the building, so it had no street noise whatsoever (and this wasn't a courtyard where people hung out in it, just used it to enter their part of the building, and it has some mailboxes at the front entrance, and a concierge near the front also). Sure, I didn't have some grand scenic view but I wasn't home during the day to speak of anyway so didn't care about that. It was like this secret apt building you wouldn't even know about from rue Mouffetard itself, but I just walked out the front door into all these shops, market, cafes, etc. It was great.

I"ve had buildings with double glazed windows and you can still hear a lot of street noise IMO, especially if you aren't that high up.

But tourist traffic and T shirt shops just means it a different kind of area, sort of like being on some of those streets around Notre Dame or on the quai across from it and those streets.
