Janis we are not all as perfect in our lives at avoiding this stuff like you are. . . This method of pickpocketing is on the increase, and after your last post, I would thought you would of learned a lesson by now. . . Why dont you truthfully tell us why you are here, or hop off

When I reported how my purse was stolen, I also spoke to other people who had also had theirs go missing in very similar ways. It seems it is not just just smartly dressed business women with shoulder handbags that are targets. Even smaller bags can be just as likely too.
In fact, as soon as they stop you or distract you; your handbag could be opened, your purse, keys, phone and contents could disappear, and they can be long gone .

thats because I read what people say, and if it makes sense in life, then I will use it. So I quite liked the word that Laura used. . . . . Its just a shame that there are people here who are so negative when things like this have happened. There were also sentimental things and private things in my purse that cannot be replaced and having it go missing is not good. Its a pity that certain people (if thats what they are) dont understand that fact. Its a big enough drama as it is, without needing anyone else adding to it.

I use a PacSafe purse when I travel. It is made of slash resistant material and has a latch. Provides peace of mind.

I wont do anything about it because of the possibility of the group being armed or attacking me; It is a little frustrating not being able to do anything about it, but I cant afford to take chances.
All we can do is learn from our own lessons; and Ive definitely learned from my experience.
The metro is an extremely risky place if you are carrying a handbag and have a purse in it . and it appears that there are many people ''working and bumping'' wallets and purses in the area. I will in a way be glad to leave the area in a few days time; because it is very risky here. Such a shame for a beautiful part of the world.

Since this has been reopened & there is still interest, I share my travel philosopy in case anyone is interested.
I know it's been said many times, but don't take a purse on the trip - only use a money belt. Glad it works for some, but I don't use a pocket vest because I would often want to take it off to prevent over heating myself.
After securing the money belt around the waist, tuck it all the way down inside your underpants, which are form fitting (so it doesn't fall out the bottom like possible with boxer shorts). Wear a loose shirt to cover any bulges - can't be seen. Can't be accessed without touching skin. In the belt, keep all docs, travel itinery & receipts, bank cards, keys, copies of travel companion's docs, money, an emergency card with name, address, cell ph # (taken on trip), health info, health ins info, travel ins info, emerg contact, & itinery including airline name & flight # and hotel info - I get all of this on both sides of a business card that I print from my pc. Never leave the hotel room without your filled money belt, because what if you are in an accident & unable to communicate.
Travel companion should do the same, plus keeping copies of your docs & bank cards.
For other stuff, place in a baggie & carry in a pocket or use a teeny tiny purse across body (with purse in front), or a waist bag under loose shirt. Carry sanitizer, wet wash cloth in own baggie, tissues, pills (rx-only enough for the day, headache, etc), Tums, small amount of money for whatever is planned for the day, reservation docs for current day (copies in money belt). If the little purse gets taken, no big deal. No need to carry around all of the things that are carried around at home.
To me, the important issue is to make the trip as care-free as possible so I only need to concentrate on having a good time!
Side note - I so totally agree with only packing a small carry-on bag. Anyone can do it. We've done it for trips of 6 weeks (take dark colored clothes) - of course we had to do a little laundry in our room - but it was so worth it. Note - Buy some disposible underwear - saves lots of space - we actually took enough for the whole 6 weeks. Also take thinner material clothes & materials that don't wrinkle much, such as, polyester (even though won't wear poly at home!). Make the trip enjoyable.
