Need advise on Luxembourg trip
We must be in Luxembourg on July 10th and need some ideas about what city to fly to from NYC so we could take 5 days or so to make our way to Luxembourg and then fly back to NYC from there. Remeber the Tour deFrance starts in Luxembourg on July 4th so we don't want to run into that. Help, please

Why not Frankfurt? You could go from there to Cologne, see the cathedral, then down to Burg Eltz which is a great castle that is still intact (surived the bombing in WWII), then to Cochem (another fortress, quaint town) then Trier (roman ruins, great cathedral) then to Vianden - a fabolous castle in Lux, then short drive up to Lux City. That should use up your 5 days, and keep you out of Lux City on the fourth. And you can see the lovely Eifel area of germany. Of course you can leave out any part of this iternerary, but I would keep Trier and Vianden, they are close together and Vianden esp are not on the regular "tourist beat" and they are not far away from Lux City.
Let me know if you need more info.

Thank you for the responses. Have been working on travel plans all day and came up with maybe flying to Paris and spending 4 nights there and then flying to Luxembourg on Luxair spending 4 nights and returning to Paris and home. It costs around $233 for a round trip to Lux from Paris. We were i Germany last year so I don't want to do that again - are there places in France near Luxembourg that we could spend 4 nights - maybe renting a car instead of the Paris trip.

Anissa's advice is right on target. Frankfurt would be the ideal place to enter and leave Europe if your goal is Luxembourg. You may also find that airline tickets to Frankfurt are less expensive than to Paris, and they will very likely be less expensive than Brussels.
My wife and I are flying in and out of Frankfurt during May and will spend about three days in Luxembourg. In our case, we are sandwiching Luxembourg between a visit to France's Wine Road (in Alsace) and a stay in Rudesheim, which is a German Rhine Valley town.
I hope you have a great trip. We have not been to Luxembourg before and are very enthusiastic about our visit. Vianden looks like one of the most striking castles in Europe.
