Need Advice - Trip to Positano

My husband and I are planning a trip to Positano in September. We're looking to rent an apartment in town and take day trips to Amalfi, Capri, Novella & Pompeii.
I will be 5 months pregnant by the time we leave. I've read many comments about the tough hiking, and steep climbs in and around the coastal area?
Would love to hear comments about whether traveling in this area in doable in my condition. I'm 30 years old, and otherwise in good health.
Thanks!

Dear danahc,

September is the best time to come over, in my opinion: not crowded at all, you will have the time and perfect weather to visit Amalfi, Capri and so on, in total relax! May I give you a little tip? Visit Ravello, and let yourself be enchanted by its spectacular views.

You can rent a lovely and cosy apartment in the very centre of Positano at www.summerinitaly.com

Congratulations and take care of yourself! :)

Ciao.

I've never been pregnant in Positano but surely someone will come by and tell you they were and it was no problem. I would just caution you to remember that in September it may still be very hot in that area, especially in Pompeii.

Also, more than tough hiking or stairs, you might need to think about winding roads in cars or buses. You have a pretty heavy day-trip agenda. Traveling anywhere around Positano involves being in a car or bus taking very winding roads. Sometimes the buses are crowded, and people have to stand.

Also, I think you probably mean "Ravello," not "Novella." Yes? If so, know that Ravello is absolutely flat. However, the road up there is one of the most winding and steepest in the Amalfi area.

Hi D,

If your physician says you can go, go.

Do keep in mind that the AC is almost vertical. Lots of steps.

Amalfi and Ravello are wasy.
I suggest that you take the ferry from the foot of town to Amalfi and bus or cab up to Ravello.

To return, buy tickets at any tabac shop on the main square of Amalfi and take the SITA bus along the coast road to the top of Positano. You can walk down, or take the Orange bus. You can buy your ticket on the bus.

For Pompeii take the ferry to Sorrento and a cab to the train station OR take the SITA bus to Meta.

Either way, you take the Circumvesuviana train to Pompei Scavi.

Enjoy your visit.

My wife and I were in the AC area about a month ago. She's 34 and was about 3 months pregnant with twins at the time. She found Positano the most challenging place when compared to Capri, Amalfi, Ravello, Pompeii, and Rome. In September I don't think you'll have to deal with the heat and humidity we experienced. I think what helped her the most was making sure we headed back to the hotel every afternoon so she could lay down for an hour or two.

I'll get a trip report on here soon.
