Need advice on travel between Paris and Venice
Hi, all,
Normally, I would take a scenic train trip with lots of stops between Paris and Venice, but I want to maximize my time in Paris with a friend and need to make it to Venice for a wedding. So, I'm looking for advice on the quickest, cheapest options to get from one to the other and back. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Julie |

If you know your bags won't exceed the weight and size restrictions, then go for the flight as opposed to the train.

Doesn't the Orient Express still run Paris/Venice.
I mean... if time and money are available...whatta way to go!!! Oops..nevermind (I just read your original post...) |
The quickest link is via Artesia Day or Night trains. Paris-Milan via high-speed train, change in Milan for Venice. Or direct overnight Artesia Night train. This route goes through France and Italy. A more scenic route via Switzerland takes longer but is doable in a day - Paris to Lausanne via TGV, change to Cisalpino, high-speed tilting train to Milan, or a few may go directly to Venice from Switzerland. You may have to change 3 or 4 times on this route but I havn't checked schedules. Swiss route great if you want to stopover in Switzerland otherwise Artesia day or night is much quicker and probably cheaper (Byzantine fare structure on Paris-Milan Artesia day can do as little as $44 in second class if you can get one of the few seats available at that price.

you can take the TGV from Gare de Lyon to Milan (6 hours). If you book on the internet you may be able to get a "prem" fare E 50. From Milan there are hourly trains to Venice 2.5-3 hours for E20-30. To get the prems you need a european address to get the tickets mailed to. Check out sncf.com
