Need advice on Edinburgh to London via Stratford, Hay, and Bath

Hello,

I am considering the following trip via train or bus and am wondering if I should add or remove days from certain towns:

20 Sep - overnight flight from NY to Edinburgh
25 Sep - most likely train from Edinburgh to Stratford-upon-Avon
28 Sep - Stratford to Hay-on-Wye
30 Sep - Hay to Bath
3 Oct - train from Bath to London
9 Oct - London to NY

Note that I skipped York this time as I was just there a couple of years ago and would rather explore other parts of the UK. My plans are fairly flexible and I would like to leisurely explore the towns. The only restriction I have is that I have to be in London by the evening of October 3.

Please advise.

Thanks!

Don't really see anyplace you could change or cut days. Edinburgh to Stratford will be a 5.5 to 6.5 hours journey. Stratford to Hay will be another 5.5+ hour journey. And Hay to Bath will take 4.5 to 6 hours so essentially each transit will eat up most of a day.

Yes, I am prepared for the long travel days. Unfortunately I am not brave enough to rent a car, which would cut down on the travel time.

Thanks!

>> . . . which would cut down on the travel time.<<

Not all that much really. Edinburgh and Stratford-upon-Avon are quite far apart so even driving would eat up a LOT of time. It would be at least a 6 hour drive and likely longer

The BIG time wasters by train are Stratford to Hay-on-Wye, and Hay to Bath which each can easily be driven in 2 hours each.

Another option may be to fly from Edinburgh to London, take the bus from the airport to Bath, take the bus/train to Hay-on-Wye, take the bus/train to Stratford-upon-Avon, and finally take the train to London?

Thanks again!
