Need Advice on Choosing Between Eguisheim, Strasbourg & Riquewihr

Hi everyone!

We are planning a short 2.5‑day trip from Paris to the Colmar area and will be using Colmar as our base. Ideally, with more time, we would love to see Eguisheim, Strasbourg, and Riquewihr. But with only 2.5 days, we are trying to be realistic.

We will definitely explore Colmar itself. But we are not sure which one or two of the nearby towns would make the best use of our time. From what I understand, Strasbourg probably needs at least half a day (maybe more?), while the villages seem quicker but super charming.

For those who have done a similar trip:

👉 If you had to choose one or two places besides Colmar, which would you recommend —Eguisheim, Strasbourg, or Riquewihr?
👉 Any pros/cons or must‑knows for each?
👉 Also curious which ones feel most unique or unmissable if time is limited.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Hard to compare, Strasbourg is one of our favourite cities in France, the other locations are small, charming villages. As an idea : we took a train to Strasbourg (spent a few nights). We picked up a car when leaving Strasbourg and drove the Alsace wine route (over a day) to Colmar (spent a night) making several stops en route.

Strasbourg must not be missed.

I'd not stay in Riquewihr, Eguisheim is small and pretty but a bit limited, Strasbourg is great. Becuase I go for the wine, walking and cycling I'd go to Eguisheim and have twice but if you want buildings then Strasbourg is the place

We based in Colmar in 2022 and visited Kayserberg-Vignoble (similar to the two small towns you mention) and Strausbourg. I'd choose Strausbourg for my daytrip.

Pretty Kaysersberg forever compromised in our memory--Bourdain took his life there.
