Need advice from Romantic Road experts

We are spending a week in Munich in February (burrrrr). We have been to Rothenburg and have spent quite a bit of time in Salzburg and the Ludwig area south of Munich. We are looking for chaming little towns (like Rothenburg, or Mittenwald) for daytrips out of Munich. We were thinking maybe Regensburg,or Dinkelsbuhl. What else should we consider? Thanks for your help.

Definitely Regensburg, but don't call that proud old imperial city a little town when you're there;-)

Lindau on the Bodensee

Burghausen

Landshut

Passau

Thanks quokka. I'll try not to insult anyone during my visit.

Hi,
While I'm no expert, we really liked Bad Reichenhall close to Berchtesgaden. You say you've done the "Ludwig area" south of Munich... does that include Herrenchiemsee? We were there recently and loved the palace.

We very much enjoyed Dinkelsbuhl, Noerdlingen and Feuchtwangen. Landshut is on our list, but we just haven't made it there yet.

We visited Bamberg in February 2005 and really enjoyed our stay. We were only there for about 24 hours but hope to return for a longer visit in the future. The old town is extremely well preserved.
We also visited Rothenburg on that trip. The open hours of the museums and shops were pretty limited, FYI. If open at all, they were open only from around 10am - 2pm or maybe 3pm. I would guess the hours in smaller towns like Dinkelsbuhl would be even more limited. You might check into this before you make plans. We spent the extra time walking around the town and photographing the snow, but had we known how very limited the hours of everything would be, we probably would have spent a little less time in Rothenburg.
