Need advice for one day activity in St Moritz in May
Ok, I goofed. I have planned a trip to St Moritz on 24 May via the Rhaetan Railway, and then on to Lugano 26 May via the Palm Express bus. So far so good. We were also planning to ride, on 25 May, the funicular to Muottas Muragl, only to finally realize ( after much itnernet searches to the contrary) that most or all of the lifts and funiculars in the St. Mortiz area are pretty much shut down in May as that is their down season. Does anyone have a nice idea of what to do in St Moritz in May? - we are seeking a nice moderately sstrenuous 4 hour hike to nice vistas. Have never been there before. thx

As you probably found out, only the Diavolezza cable car is open at that time. Depending on weather I would probably do the Bernina Pass train ride. Break up the ride at Diavolezza, take the cable car up to enjoy the view of the glaciers and peaks of the Bernina massif.
Continue the train ride to Alp Grüm, get off the train and have lunch at the restaurant there. Hike via the amazing turquoise Lake Palü and Cavaglia down to Poschiavo. Explore the nice town (get the key for the Baroque church just south of the town from the info centre in the train station) and hop on the train back to St. Moritz.
I would have suggested a hike in the Bregaglia valley (to Soglio) but since you'll take the Palm Express bus next day you'll pass this valley anyway. And it would be a shame to miss the Bernina pass views.
