Need advice - day trip to Chianti winery
We are staying in Florence for an extra day so that we can rent a car and drive to the Chianti region and go to a winery.
Which winery(s) do you suggest? Tried to do a search but not learning much. Thanks everyone! |
For an overview, see www.kilkelly.com/Chianti.html - - or any of arious threads here on this forum containing the word "kilkelly" will have addiotional discussion of what people have found when looking for ways to explore the Chianti in earch of wine producers.
Best wishes, Rex |
Castello Verranzano offers a tour and snack or lunch. It's not too far from Florence and we really enjoyed it. Gino was very entertaining and informative. You can contact them by e mail.

You must not be trying much if you haven't found much ! There are plenty of wineries that have much to offer from staying on the estate to tastings, castle tours, even olive oil & other foood products.
You need to do a few searches on the web & you'll find plenty of info. There are books at the big chain bookstores that provide a lot of information just about wineries. Look in the travel section, as well as the cuisine section & travel essay. I am not am home but I have 2 or 3 books just on Tuscan vineyard exploration. There are even some videos you could purchase. I visted a quite a few and they all have different characteristics. Either indicate more specifically what your looking for in a winery or hit the research harder. Half the fun is learning about where your going . |
One I can recommend is Dievole just north of Siena. Wonderful wines and a beautiful estate. But there are many others too.

While not officially open to the public, I think if you are in the restaurant/wine business you can tour the Antinori Estate in Chianti. (We stayed there and therefore could take the tour. It's a good one with a tasting at the end.) The restaurant is also a good place to stop for lunch or dinner. There is a large wine list(mostly Antinori) and a wine shop as well. The restaurant is just down the hill from the winery. Here is contact info for the restaurant which may also be able to give you info on the winery tour. FAX: 055 8071278 E mail: [email protected]
