Need a place to stay not too far from the main train station in Rome

Will only stay one night in Rome before heading for the airport to go home. Will arrive in Civecchio (spelling?) via a cruise. Is there a train at the port to take me to the main train station in Rome? If so, how long is the trip. Stayed at the Hotel Mascongi on Septemmre but it is over $300 per night. Can you please recommend a clean hotel, in safe neighborhood? Also beside the main attractions, what can we do or see for this one day? Please excuse spelling.

Frequent trains connect Civitavecchia's train station, about a half-mile from the port entrance (a vast port however) and take about an hour or so to Rome and are dirt cheap. This train also stops at Trastevere's train station and this area is a favorite base for many. The area around Rome's main train station is a huge hotel ghetto with literally hundreds of hotels of all different sorts.

Haven't stayed here myself, but my best friend did on her honeymoon last March, and they said it was great. It's a B & B right near the Termini, and they stayed in the "water" room. Good luck!

This is the sister hotel of the lovely Albergo del Senato. I've heard very good things about it and the price is reasonable:

Hotel cervia is a five minute walk from the station and clean, cheap-ish, and safe. Very convenient
