Need a jacket in Europe in Sept?
I guess we need to know whether to mess with taking cool weather gear to Europe in Sept.
|
Where is Europe? Certainly if in Northern Europe I'd take a windbreaker and then layer.
|
Jacket for the southern half, especially in the latter half of the month. Coat for the northern half - - jacket might suffice in the forst half of the month.
And additionally... anything above, say... 1000 m in elevation should be considered "northern half" (i.e., Pyrenees, Alps, Dolomites, Apennines, Tatras). Best wishes, Rex |
Where are you going?
|
What country(ies)? And what do you mean by jacket - windbreaker? sport jacket? thin leather jacket? winter jacket?
IMHO - unless you're doing high alps - or Russia/Finland anything more than a very light jacket is overkill. |
<<anything more than a very light jacket is overkill.>>
We all agree that countries need to be specified. And... there's a big difference between Sep 1 and Sep 30. And between 2 pm and 11 pm. |
In addition to location, what is "cool weather gear". That could mean a lot of different things to people. It's not the tropics or the equator.
|
not to beat this poor dead horse -- but do you mean Finland or Greece, Spain or Shetland, Paris or Rome, Moscow or Lisbon??????????
Europe is a VERY big place. . . . |
There's a site www.wunderground.com that has pretty cool histories of weather for the past few years for travellers.
We thought we'd go without coats (just take light jackets) for mid-September to mid-October because we head south (Provence and Greek Islands) by the time it's October, but I looked yesterday at September temperatures in Prague for the past few years and got a bit of a surprise at how cold it can get, especially overnight. Might rethink those coats. Actually I've been in Paris the same week two years running, and the first year struck really hot sticky weather, the second year it was foggy every morning and quite brisk. Sounds just like Melbourne. We always joke we have four seasons in one day here! |
