Need a hotel near but not on Mont Saint Michel

I am planning a trip which would include visiting Mont Saint Michel in May. For various reasons, I have ditched the plan to stay one night on the Mont. I would like to find accommodations nearby that have some charm perhaps a BnB or small family hotel. Any suggestions?

Years ago we stayed at this B&B between Cancale and Saint Malo.

You could try https://www.gites-de-france.com/en or http://www.france-balades.fr/index_us.html for similar accommodations.

There is a hotel zone on the mainland connected to the Mont by a free shuttle bus, which runs until late at night. This is excellent for exploring Mont Saint Michel after dark when the street is deserted. However, the most spectacular nighttime view is precisely from where the hotels are located. There are several categories of hotel, but I stayed at the Mercure on points.

We stayed at a similar looking B&B 10 years ago, between the Normandy beaches and Mont St. Michel. I thought it was a perfect location. Day tripped to the beachhead, to Bayeux, to MSM, then continued south from there. The B&B was sort of a square of structures, with an open courtyard. The host said it was several hundred years old. Good beds and food.

Just google " B&B normandy michel " and you'll get even more choices to search

We stayed at the Mercure. We could walk to Mont St Michel or catch the shuttle bus right outside the hotel. We had hoped to stay on the mont but cold and rainy weather made us rethink our plan of climbing wet and slippery cobblestone steps with luggage.

We've previously stayed at Hotel Gabriel just off the Mont, and were very happy with it.
