Need a hotel in Rome

Everyone was so helpfull in finding a hotel in Venice that I am now asking for help in locating a hotel in Rome for 3 days in May 08. Not looking for anything extravagant but moderate, clean and close enough to be in the mix of sights and restaurants. Thanks for the help.

How many people and how much would you like to spend?

I too am pondering accomodations in Rome for next May... I think I will force myself to become firm on the dates by the end of this week. We will be traveling about a bit before Rome, and I just haven't had time to think about it. But you are right to pick now, I think.

Someone recently posted a rec for the Nicolas Inn, which seems nice. But here is something that really frosts me: so many hotels put up a range of prices on their websites. I feel almost forced to grovel for a good price, and I hate that. I noticed the Nicolas Inn range is from 100 to 180 euro. That is quite a spread.

I thought the ranges that show on Italy hotels tend to be tied to specific seasons... so if a double is 120/180, then it's 120 in low season and 180 in high season...and then you can often get 5-10% off by paying in cash.

Hi acblaze, as a rule we do not care for b&b however had a great experience with Arco del Lauro, actually it is like a tiny hotel. Everything turn out very possitive, go to tripadvisor.com and have a look...

HI

The city center of Rome is not really that big so hotel location is not that critical. My wife and I went to Rome a couple of years back and we stayed near Termini. Check out my trip report with pictures and links on my homepage http://gardkarlsen.com/rome_italy.htm and maybe you can find some useful info there to start with :d

I just made a reservation for 2 nights next May at the Hotel Smeraldo for 145 euro per night. Absolutely great location near Piazza Navona.Pantheon etc.
