Need a hotel in or around Heidelberg for family of 5 for one night

Our family of 5 is going to Germany in July. I'm trying to spend at least three nights in each destination (probably St. Goar, Mittenwald and Rothenburg adt) but if we want to see Heidelberg, I think we'll need to stay there one night. I'd like to keep the total to around $300-$350 per night, which doesn't appear to stretch too far if we need 2 rooms and even less far if we need three rooms. The places recommended by Fodors and on Trip Advisor seem pricey. Any ideas?

missypie I have stayed at the crown plaza it is very close to the Castle and pedestrian street, i have no idea what the price is but it was nice and clean when i went to heidelberg a few years ago. Hope you enjoy your stay there I love Germany and Heidelberg is very pretty specially the area where the castle is.

The Crown Plaza looks nice, but their lowest rate is 158 euro per night and we'd need 2 rooms. That bumps us into $500 per night territory (without breakfast!)

You might try Hotel Backmulde Gaststatte, Hotel Kohler, Hotelo, and the Goldener Hirsch.

I second Hotel Kohler. That's where I send my family when they come to visit.

Try the NH which is usually around 99 euros per night.

Look on www.hrs.de

i'm looking for a hotel in heidelberg as well - something in the $150-200 range for one night (apr 17th). my only requirement is that it's within walking distance of the old town area and the castle.

has anyone stayed in the best western hotel alt heidelberg? they are offering a 115EUR rate, which is the cheapest i've found for something in the city. i saw the crowne plaza and NH hotel were mentioned above, but both are a little pricier than i'd like.

thanks!

I stayed at the Ibis next to the train station for 78 euros a night.
convenient parking and short tram ride or walk into town. Ibis heidelberg Willy-Brandt-Platz 3.

After looking up the web sites of all of your recommendations, reading Trip Advisor, and emailing for quotes, it looks like it's down to two choices:

Kohler-total for a triple and a double, including breakfast (said to be "adquate) and tax 207 Euro (around $327). In a residential area 2 km to castle; parking garage in next block

Gasthause Backmulde-total for a triple and double, including breakfast (said to be "great&quot and tax 295 Euro (around $466). In old town; limited parking.

If you know the hotels, which would you recommend? If they are roughly equal, of course I'd like to save the $140 and go with the Kohler.

Wait, there's one more option: The Schloss Hotel Hischhorn, just out of town. 1 corner room with extra bed and one double room, both in castle (not the annex), including breakfast and all taxes 269 euro (around $425). This sounds like a very cool alternative, if we would have time to enjoy it.

If you want help in finding an accommodation along the middle rhein, contact the Loreley Valley Rhein Tourism office. They found Sankt Goar accommodations for us during the Rhein in Flames event, after we had struck out. Website:

Claudia Schwartz or Teresia Oppenhaeuser did a great job for us. I'm guessing they would for you, too. Their Email addresses are:

We stayed at the Hotel Anlage. Right in the old town of Heidelberg. We stayed one night 2 years ago. Very homey, clean and a good breakfast. Rooms look affordable- still.

Good reviews on Trip Advisor.

Missypie,

I've been following your posts because I'm also planning my Germany trip for this year.

I recently considered staying in Heidelberg for one night. I found that the rates quoted (I was shopping for a triple) on the Heidelberg tourism website seemed to be a fair bit lower than some of the booking engines.

I just thought I'd mention it, in case you hadn't looked there.

Have fun!
