Neasden
 

Has anyone been to Neasden and is it worth going to? Looked incredible to me but can't find much information. Am staying in London - how to get there by public transit and how long to take? Thanks!

Okay, I'll bite. Neasden? You're kidding, right? All I remember is a run-of-the-mill London suburb, a stop on the tube to Stanmore (Jubilee or Metropolitan line).

So if you do go, at least it's easy to get to. Maybe you can tell us what was "incredible" about the experience.

London fodorites, has there been some dramatic change in Neasden since I used to commute through there?

I had heard that the Neasden Temple is incredible - bad info?

Okay, I'll admit that I have lived in the Swiss Cottage area for nearly 3 years and I have NEVER been to Neasden, but it is 6 stops north of me on the Jubilee line, so about 20 minutes from Swiss Cottage. Let me know.

The temple looks amazing from photos but suburb itself is on noone's tourist list. So if you have time maybe go, but do not put it top of the list.

The Neasden temple IS amazing. But not particularly more so than many Hindu temples in India - or the extraordinary art collections from all over South and Central Asia both in the British Museum and the V&A.
As a monument to what our more recent immigrants can create, it's probably more impressive than the similar Sikh temple in Southall (but Southall is easier to get to and has much better Indian restaurants than Neasden). And the Bangladeshi area around Brick Lane has a mosque with an even more impressive pedigree (ex-synagogue, ex-Huguenot - French Protestant - church). Brick Lane also offers better restaurants than Neasden, and is extremely central.
Personally, I wouldn't even try the Neasden temple by public transport, but doubtless someone car-o-philiac will advise you.

The Neasden Temple is fabulous. The best way to go is to take a mini-cab and ask him to wait as it doesn't take long to see all of it.

sorry, but Neasden is somewhere you drive through (or pass the stop on the underground) on the way to somewhere more interesting.

It doesn't rank amongst the worlds top tourist attractions ?

Agreed, Neasden is a dump, so you'd have to be pretty keen to see the temple to go there.
