“And most people don't like hearing about opera performances.”

Very clever.

Adelaidean, thanks for that link.

Ingo, I am currently trying to figure out how to get some tickets for the Real in Madrid and a performance of Lucia which occurs about a week after we are in Sils and have finished performances in Verona but so far no luck but will keep trying.

And as a follow-on to my post above I emailed the Teatro Real earlier today about ticket availability and they very promptly replied that the tickets will go on sale in March of next year.

I think I'm gonna have to write a trip report, yummy foods or not.

"most people don't like hearing about opera performances"

The closest we got to an opera performance was seeing David Gilmour in the Verona Arena last year ( his concert was squeezed in between 2 big name operas) but I like reading other people's travel preferences and experiences, otherwise I'd probably play it 'safe' and stick to what I know and think I'd enjoy.
And now we are 'invested' in your trip, you have a moral obligation to report back LOL..

There is a story in the news about a different "Waldhaus" hotel, this one in St. Moritz where a wealthy person from China paid $10000 for a glass of supposedly very vintage Scotch which turned out to be fake.

I don’t travel FOR opera, but I saw Madame Butterfly at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus in Athens during my most recent trip – and as you might expect, no one commented on it. ;-)

Good luck getting your tickets for the Teatro Real!

Dukey - that other Waldhaus (am See) in St. Moritz enjoys a fantastic location, too, but is a three star hotel. They are indeed famous for their Whiskey bar, and I am really surprised it was a fake Scotch. Not that I'd ever pay that much for a glass of Scotch!

So you'll get tickets for the Teatro Real, I am sure. And I'll love to hear about it. Btw, I'll see the new production of Lucia di Lammermoor at the Semperoper Dresden on 18 November. And I attended a stunning Götterdämmerung (Thielemann, Schager, Stemme) and Les Troyens this week. I don't travel FOR opera, either, but if I get the chance on a trip, then I try to see one.
