Naxos or Paros for our Greek Isle?
 

Planning on going to Santorini and want to go to one other island. For various reasons have narrowed it down to either Naxos or Paros. I would appreciate any comments on which island and/or pros and cons of both, etc. Also how many nights you'd recommend (2 or 3) <BR> <BR>Thanks, <BR>Lori

I would stay Santorini not more than 2 nights and spend the rest of the time on Paros. I thought it was unbelievable. Everything about it was great.Great beaches, great food, fun things to do. We sailed over to Naxos, but didn't see any of the island, so can't comment on that, and a number of people on this site seemed to have really liked Naxos.

Many years ago I went to both Paros and Naxos. Liked them both, but I really had good memories of Naxos. Last fall when I went back to Greece, I decided to go to Naxos. I'm glad I did. While the beaches are great, there is a lot more to do there than relax on a beach. The main town is really interesting. There are several old houses with the Venetian crests above the doorways - we spent an afternoon wandering around the narrow little streets (no cars) checking these out and getting lost. We rented a car and drove to Apirathos, a town in which all the sidewalks are marble. We also drove along the coast to Apollon. We saw the giant kouros statue there, as well as the other one elsewhere on the island. We went to a concert of local music at the Venetian museum one evening and sampled local liquers. Plus we also spent a day on the beach. <BR> <BR>This trip was very different from the one I made in the 70's. I definitely had different interests back then! <BR> <BR>I would definitely recommend 3 or 4 nights on Naxos. <BR> <BR>You can literally see Paros from Naxos, they are that close.

By the way, I like Naxos much better than Santorini. We had heard so much about Santorini, that it was almost a letdown. I would recommend no more than 2 nights there. I wish I had gone there in the 70's - it would have been much less commercialized then.
