Naxos hotels
We were thinking about stopping in Naxos for a few nights on our honeymoon, but now I think that we might go to a different island. I'm having a hard time finding a hotel in Naxos with a nice pool. Does this sort of hotel exist in Naxos, or do I have to go to the beach? Are there any hotels ON the beach that have lounge chairs, towels etc? Thanks for the help.

Hi
Congratulations on your impending nuptials :) When are you going? What is your budget (in euro)? What about the Kavos Hotel - http://www.kavos-naxos.com. |
Many pools are only heated by the sun, so in May they might be too cold to use, depending on what the weather is like when you're there. May is still sort of transitional weather-wise.
For luxury and amenities right on the beach check out the Lagos Mare Hotel: http://www.lagosmare.gr/naxos-greece.html and the Plaza Beach Hotel: http://www.plazanaxos.com/ |
Thanks for the quick replies!
World, I'm going to write Kavos and fnd out the prices, but it looks great! Brotherlee,Lagos Mare looks great! I'm going to show my fiance all the recommendations. I'm sure we will stay at one of the three. I will let you know which one. |
Lagos Mare is quite isolated, and a walk downhill to the beach. If that's OK with you, it does have more luxe ... Naxos is not Santorini (thankfully) so does not go in for the really high-end resort style places.
Also, in Naxos, hotels that call themselves "luxury" are not very often ON the beach ... usually back 200 yards or more. The hotels nearest the beach are usually small, clean, lovely views, not fancy ... no jacuzzi, no pools but you have patio or balcony for sunbathing, as well as the beach in front of the hotel. As BrotherLee says, ALL pools are unheated and since you are from Southern California, you will find pools chilly; even those of us who swim in New England, find them "brisk." You fail to say when you are going (tho BLL seems to know). If u want to know about Naxos, stanbr on this forum and heimdall are the most knowledgeable. |
Thanks for the compliment, Jan, but you know Naxos better than me! :-)
The hotel I stay at on Naxos overlooks http://www.naxosresort.gr/, and it may be a good choice for you. It's only a few steps from St George (Agios Georgios) beach, and a short walk into the harbour and kastro area, where the shops and restaurants are located. If you plan to hire a car, they have guest parking there as well (not a given with Greek Island hotels). |
You might also try Naxos Resort Beach Hotel. It is about 50 meters off St George beach but it has a very nice pool.
It used to be called Naxos Royal and if you google that name it comes up. It is a 4 star and I have had good feedback from people who stayed there. For a good quality hotel for people who do not want to pay 4 star prices try Hotel Spiros. It is right beside Naxos Royal, has a pool and a kitchenette. To get to the beach though you have to go around so it is a bout 200 meters. On the walk to the beach from Spiros you will pass Hotel Galaxy. It would probably be a three star hotel. Whenever I have passed this hotel there are lots of people lounging around the pool. It is probably about 75 meters from the beach. As for lounge chairs there will be lots of them on St George beach. You get two loungers a table and an umbrella for 6 to 10 euro for the day. Just chose your location and after a few minutes the attendant will arrive to take your money. There are also a couple of beach bars. Their loungers are complimentary as long as you keep buying your refreshments. St George beach is a good location because it is so close to town but far enough away so that it is quiet at night. Here are our Naxos pictures. http://travel.webshots.com/album/552001505EYxVYT |
We are thinking of adding Naxos to our trip to Mykonos and Santorini. Yes, we know these two islands may be a bit redundant, and packed, but from what we read we do want so spend a few days at each.
For mechanics of how to get to Naxos: is it easier to get there from Santorini or Mykonos? Thus, maybe we could go Santorini-Naxos-Mykonos-Athens. Or, is it easier Santorini-Mykonos-Naxos? Or, it doesn't much matter? We would want fast ferries and we are traveling in late August. Yet, Aegean doesn't seem to have flights Naxos-Athens and thus we would have to go with Olympic, which we aren't much interested in doing. Also, the Lago Mare looks very nice. Do you know if there are some restaurants/shops nearby? I imagine we would rent a car there. Thanks. |
Hi Tengo
Please don't hijack LA's post. Place a seperate post for your queries. You'll get alot more responses that way :) |
We stayed at Kavos on Naxos and it was quite nice. Lovely pool area and good staff at the hotel. We had a car so we could drive to the beach and into town.

Tengo just in case you choose not to re post.
Yes you can rent a car in Naxos Town. It is about 4 km from Lago Mare. That hotel seems to be getting lots of attention as the pictures are really good. It does not however give its location which is at Stelada which is a high rocky promontory at the end of Aggia Procopious Beach. The view will be stunning, but the beach is a few minutes walk downhill which means it is a few more minutes walk back up hill. It is somewhat remote so if that is what you are looking for then this appears to be a very nice spot. |
Thank you Stan. I have emails out to a few of the Naxos properties. I think we would prefer to be closer to town. But, as you note, the Lago Mare has attractive photos . . .
Thanks again. |
