Amsterdam Centraal to our hotel - walkable?
We will be arriving in Amsterdam after many hours on an airplane and taking the airport train to Amsterdam Centraal. Our hotel is at 14 Leidsegracht (just north of Leidsestraat)- can we walk there? We pack light (just rolling backpacks) but we will be tired and probably wouldn't want to walk more than 15-20 minutes.

15-20 minutes may work for that distance. But when you leave the CS take any of the trams 1, 2, or 5 which depart in front of the station. Ride 4 or 5 stops to Koningsplein or Keizersgracht and walk less than 5 minutes.

Cowboy's on the money. Tram tranport, all hubbing out from the station, in Amsterdam is cheap, frequent and easy--everyone speaks English. If you want to buy a transport pass, we can provide additional info for that, too.

It's really too far and too crowded to roll bags thru all that. The tram stops are just out front of Centraal, clearly signposted. You can buy tickets or passes at the GVB office, also across from Centraal but a little to the left (as you're coming out the station's entrance). The office is a white building with blue lettering and shares space with the VVV (tourist office).

When you board a tram, take note if the doorway is meant for those entering or exiting. There is one near the back of the tram that will be close to the conductor booth, who will need to see/stamp your ticket/pass. So climb on with your bag there, get that done, then pull your stuff to the side to make room for others. Make sure your belongings, pockets, purses etc are safely stowed and no one has access to any part of your stuff. this rule applies for all tram rides - they are fun and easy, just be alert.
