Naxos accommodations

I am looking for recommendations for places to stay on Naxos in St. George beach near Naxos town. My husband and I will be there mid June for 3 nights, coming from Santorini. We would love to find a bed and breakfast or some inn or even an apartment that has a large balcony overlooking the beach/ocean. I would like to be walking distance for Naxos Town. Budget would be roughly 200-300/night US

There are plenty of nice rooms and apartments on St. GEorge Beach with balconies looking directly on the water ... the only problem, heharris is that in June it's difficult to spend as much as $300 per night!! If that's a problem he he. As I've explained on this website before, because Naxos tourism originally developed for people of modest income, the beachfronts filled up with moderate-price family-run accommodations ... rooms, "self-catering" studios or 1-BR units, or apartments. The only "upmarket" places (fancy lobbies, staff in uniforms) are 3 - NIssaki Beach (few rooms w. seaview balconies), Galaxy (back from beach away, near a busy road) and Naxos Resort Beach Hotel (only some rooms w. sea-view balconies, but a landscaped lawn & pool leading toward beach). These are all Large facilities, and you say you want a smaller place. There are many available ones particularly since you're planning ahead. DO remember not to apply American chain-hotel standards for room size and bathroom size (sure, there are huge rooms with 2 queen beds and a double-sink bathroom at the Red Roof Inn on Interstate 80... but then, where are you? In Central Ohio!).

It's easy for you to see choices & exact locations by simply using Booking.com St. George Beach & putting in your dates, When the screen comes up, click the box on TOP that says "Map View." You then see all available places as balloons, showing exact beach location -- and beside each, the 3-night rate. Clicking on ones you like, you see descriptions, photos, reviews etc. Almost all the St. George places directly on the beach or with views from a few yards back will be on Booking.com -- however, they may not be active yet -- (perhaps because they haven't figured out their 2019 prices yet). Naxos is not like Santorini which posts rates 18++ months ahead (the Bridezilla phenomenon!). There's one very attractive boutique choice, Villa Naxia, that no longer works thru online agencies because it is in so much demand, but they have a website to contact them directly. Majority of places on the booking.com (except for super-budget places) also have their own websites. Thus, one may use bookng.com to make a choice, and then contact your choice thru its own website. Hotels save the 5% agency fee and are most appreciative. Another tip -- after you find some good choices (and I'll put this in parentheses -- Trip Advisor Reviews have an extra box labeled "room tips" and reviewing guest often say "be sure to ask for room #--- for best view!"). For example, Ippokampos Beachfront, in TA reviews, guests recommend getting the Top floor rooms for best view.

EVerything on St. G. beach is walkable to the port town, and its so nice to be able to stroll back by moonlight to ones room on the beach. Rather than naming a bunch of choice why don't you choose some that appeal to you, and ask us to compare?

Here are a few places I was looming at
Cyano suites
Naxos Riviera
Anamnesia Boutique Hotel

I am very confused. You seem not to be following your own requirements. You say you want something in St. George, but 3 out of the 4 you name are not in St. George at all. You say you want something within walking distance of town, but with balcony overlooking the beach. Anamnesia Boutique and Naxo RIviera are right on the PORT seafront, which is wonderful to go to have dinner or drinks or shop -- but NOT overlooking a beach ... more just overlooking boat docks. Have you looked at the google maps?? Here is a "Skymap" of Naxos Town/St. G Beach - SkyMap.Gr-Naxos TownPrime -- click & it gets huge, and you scroll around on it. It may give you a more realistic picture.

Cyano suites seem to be halfway up the hill/bluff to the Grotta Hotel... yes they would have a lovely view over the western sea, and down to the ferry pier. But it is a looooong walk thru town to St. George beach. You COULD catch a bus on the main road from there to the outer beaches like Prokopios or Plaka... or rent a car. But I don't know if you'd want to have dinner at night by the port-town seafront (lots of fun) then walk up that hill in the dark. I have done it to Hotel GRotta and it was a hike, and you need a flashlight & sure footing. And if any of these say "9 minutes walk to a beach" ... they are talking about actually a swimming place off the causeway to the Naxian arch... and there's no beach and almost no one swims there. By Thomas, do you mean Studios Thomas??? Now this is directly on St. GEorge beach, yes, but it would not seem to be he sort of place you want. Because it's right on the sands, has studio self-catering and patios, it is almost entirely a family accommodation, full of lovely toddlers whom I adore, but I think not your sort of thing. as I say, you confuse us. Why don't you look at booking.com as I recommended if you really want st. George. Above all, I urge you not to fall in love with something because you look on your phone at a website of a pretty bedroom, a bath, and a balcony, without thinking about the location of the place.

What travelerjan said!

I don't understand how you are researching your options, if these are the results. Please go back to booking.com and use it's wonderful search criteria and options -- and maps. Cross check against TripAdvisor and with google maps.

Good luck!

Booking(dot)com is a good place to start, and if you use the map on the website you can see the locations of the hotels. St George Beach is the bay just south of the port, and hotels there are about 10-15 minutes walk from the port and old town. Looking at their website this morning, many listings say "We have only 1 left on our site!". That doesn't mean the hotel is nearly full, but that there is only one room left allocated to the booking engine. You can usually find the hotel's own website on Google by scrolling down past the various paid ads and booking engines that are listed first. Hotels allocate only some of their rooms to booking engines, holding the rest for booking themselves.

With your budget of $200-300 you will have a pick of just about any hotel on Naxos. That wouldn't get you very much on the Santorini caldera, but Naxos is much cheaper, not only for hotels but for meals and other things too.

Thank you so much for the feedback. So very helpful. I do want to be walking distance to town and on the beach so it looks like the places I mentioned are way off the mark. I will take a look at the map. Just curious any places jump out at you that you would recommend? Thanks.

It is very hard for us to recommend places specifically for you at this point, without having any idea of the "luxe level" that you require. Your $200-300 per nite level as Heimdall says will get you about any room in St. George, but we don't know what matters to you. Is it a king or queen-size bed (if not stated on website you may have to inquire specifically ... many Greek hotels have only twins & doubles, or twins on one headboard, a few now have queens, but u need to ask). Is it a giant bathroom? (on the beach in Naxos, not likely, because as stated above most beachfront places were built years ago for moderate-budget travelers; only brand-new places have such, and they're inland, no sea view). Why don't you invest some time, click on ones well-situated, and go to their websites. If these include "guest photos" those are always good, because as we know, owner photos can be cleverly angled to imply better views or larger facilities than actual.

One hotel in St George that is fairly new and near the beach is naxosresort.gr . I've never stayed there (prefer older more traditional hotels) but where I usually stay at Naxos is right next door. Add the www if necessary in front of the link I gave you and it will lead you to the hotel website. Travelerjan and her cohort stanbr are more into checking out hotels than me, so they will have other suggestions.

Trip Advisor also separates guest photos from hotel promo photos, so you can go there to see what's been posted and to read more reviews. On TA you can also send a private message to any reviewer you think might have answers to your questions about a particular room or hotel.

Narrowed to 2

Narrowed it down to Glaros Boutique and Kalergis Studios. Any feedback on either and what might be a better choice?
