Navigo Decouverte vs Carnet for Paris Metro

DH and I arrive in Paris Friday May 22 and depart Saturday May 31. We already bought Air France bus tickets round trip from CDG. We plan on a day trip to Versailles and a day trip to Epernay. We are active and would like to go to many of the gardens and around town. Wondering if we should buy the packet of 10 carnet at a time or consider the Navigo card. Any help is much appreciated!

The weekly pass might be okay. for the price, I'd probably go with the 10 packet carnet, but it will depend on what you have planned for the week. Constantly on the go, or relaxing for a few days.

You can't get to Epernay with any Parisian métro pass or ticket. That's a trip on the SNCF. Or Versailles, for that matter - that requires an RER ticket.

Navigo Découverte fares are valid for any give Monday through the following Sunday. If you are arriving on a Thursday and leaving on a Tuesday, the ND would not be very cost effective. I would just use groups of 10 individual tickets t+ costing 13.70€

Hi ButterflyGirl06,

I would get a carnet on Friday 22 May and use it through the weekend. Then get a Navigo on Monday for the 26-31 May week.

I don´t know why I thought you were leaving on the 27th. swandav2000 has the answer, ND for the week of the 26th.

If you enjoy gardens, don´t miss the seldom mentioned Jardin d´Albert Kahn:

I would get a carnet too. Paris is small and you don't have to take that much the metro (except for Montmartre!) and, in any case, you'll need special fares ticket for Versailles.
And +1 for Albert Kahn's garden!

thanks a lot everyone! I bought the Hidden Gardens of Paris book and am hoping to discover a lot of new and beautiful places!

We always buy a Navigo Découverte, and we almost always take buses - not the metro. Often I'll plan a zig-zag or circular route around Paris using buses. This allows us to take a peek at various neighborhoods that we might not get to see otherwise. If something looks interesting - like a farmer's market or an unusual shop - we'll get off the bus to take a closer look. We did this around Christmas just to see the Christmas decorations/lights on some streets. Also, after a day of sightseeing, we're often "dragging" a bit. If we're walking back to the apt and see a bus coming our way - we'll hop on it just for a couple of blocks to save our legs. It's nice not to worry about costs of an additional ride, and just take the bus whenever we feel like it.
