navigation and travel from Malpensa Airport, Italy

flying into milan to malpensa airport. is this a big airport? What mode of travel is safe, inexpensive and will take me to a safe inexpensive place in milan. I see that there were several airports in milan when booking flight. Shoe string budget, travel alone. English only. Is there airport shuttle buses into milan and if so how do know which to get on and is there a better place in milan or do you reconmend going to another town? So many questions and the reason I chose milan is because it had more flights coming into Italy so cheaper rate. So where to begin?

Very big airport and 30 miles west town.
There is a shuttle bus that runs every :30 to the Milano Centrale station. There are dozens of hotels within that area of town---check venere.com for prices and locations.

The shuttle bus from MXP to main train station in Milan (Milano Centrale) will cost you, about 8 euros, and takes just under an hour (usually). And yes, it's safe-easy way to get into city center.

Additionally you have the option of taking the train between Malpensa Airport and Milan. Train info >>> http://www.airwise.com/airports/euro...transport.html
You'll note there are two different lines ..... Malpensa Express will take you into Cardona Nord station, and Trenitalia goes into Milano Centrale. These trains cost a bit more than shuttle bus (still a reasonable price).

Hotels?? Always helps to identify price range as "cheap" can differ according to one's budget. As already suggested www.venere.com is good place to look. Also, check http://www.eurocheapo.com/milan/

Malpensa Express now operates trains to both Cadorna and Milano Centrale. There is a special fare of €7 to/from Milano Centrale.

Both services are now operated by a single company called TreNord, formed by the merge of Le Nord and the Lombardy regional branch of Trenitalia.

Curious ..... has anyone taken the train into Centrale from MXP and if so, better or easier other options ?? On my travels, I've taken either the shuttle bus or the train to Cadorna. I haven't been to Milan since train service into Centrale was iniatated.
