I have a few questions about Chartres: <BR>Are tours available during the winter (December)? <BR>How long is the train ride from the 4th district to the region (Chartres) and how many FF? <BR>Would it just be easier to use one of the tour companies? <BR>And any other helpful info...

Take a look at the www.chartres.com website. If Malcom Miller is giving tours definitely take his. I’ve done his tours 3 times and he is extremely knowledgeable and interesting. He’s also written books about the cathedral (available in the book store). The train takes about an hour and you can get the fare from the French rail web site http://www.sncf.fr/. The town is interesting to walk around, there’s a medieval section behind the cathedral. You don’t really need a tour for the town. It’s small with a very good TI. <BR>

Do you know if there is a parking lot close to the cathedral, and if it is difficult to drive into the town?

We parked on a tree- shaded street about three blocks away from the cathedral. <BR> <BR>Make sure you behave yourself if you go on one of Malcolm Miller's wonderful tours. He threw a mom with a small baby out because the baby was making just a little noise. I was hoping I wouldn't sneeze or cough! <BR> <BR>Bon voyage

One other thing! <BR> <BR>We enjoyed a delicious and not expensive lunch at the restaurant across a side street just to the right of the cathedral as you're facing it. The name was the Serpente, or something close to that. <BR> <BR>Bon appetit
