We have 2 couples leaving for a golf trip in June. Space is a concern with luggage, golf clubs and 4 bodies.
National car rental in dublin has a 7 seater available but its not a vehicle I've ever heard of.
a 7 seater auto Opel Zafira???
The cost is $105 per day with insurance.
I was hoping for a windstar min-van or something like it...

In September we rented the same vehicle in Dublin. We were 2 couples with lots of luggage. It was perfect. This is a minivan like any other. It should work out just fine for you.
Have a great trip. We rented from Dan Dooley and were very satisfied.

Opel calls the Zafira a compact van.
In all, a purchaser can select from 7 different engines.
If you decide to rent this vehicle, you probably should ask about the engine. The smallest engine stikes me as being a little underpowered for American driving habits.
Other than that, it comes in 5 different models with different trim and other dodahs.
It is about 14 feet long, which is not too bad on length for a van.
I think by the time you put 4 people and luggage in one of those things, it is going to be full, particularly if you all have golf clubs.

We rented one of these in 2000 in Ireland. It fit three adult-sized people with plenty of room. The only problem I remember was that there was no cover for the rear area, so I felt our luggage was exposed when we were in towns between B&Bs. It was a bit smaller than than the Chrysler minivan we owned at the time, which worked out very nicely for the narrow back roads we love so much in Ireland.

This reminds me of a scene at Avis, Edinburgh airport.
Two couples, four 26" suitcases, Two hardshell golf bags. All standing behind a European mid size car staring into the trunk shaking their heads.
This is precisely the type of vehicle they needed and were obviously misinformed.

I'm going to try and pack for a 2 week trip in a 22" with a carry on.
I have my golf bag to stuff things into also and I'm going to use this sites many ideas on packing...one in particular which was putting things in ziploc bags and pushing the air out.
I'm sold on that idea.
Now I just have to find the 2 gallon ziploc bags...may have to settle for 1 gallon cause no one here seems to have the larger ones unless you buy in bulk.

The Zafira is sold in Ireland and descriptions of it are available in English. Try here:
http://www.opel.ie/action/go?cntryCd...mp;page=zafira
You can find it from the main Opel page by clicking on Ireland.
The site will give you technical descriptions of the various models.
Perhaps that will answer most of your questions.

I just noticed that none of the models sold in Ireland are acceleration demons.
The best 0 to 100 kph, about 62 mph, is 11.5 seconds with the 1.8 gasoline engine. The diesel is a little slower than the 1.6 gasoline engine, 13.5 versus 13 seconds.
The third row of seats will fold down, thus making more cargo space typical in most US vans.
I hope it works out for you.
