narrowing down sat lunch and sunday brunch in Budapest
i have got tons of lists of great looking restaurants from here and other websites..( www.pestiside.hu is FUN!). some with conflicting opinions, of course, to add to the difficulty.
any locals' opinions out there? would appreciate memorable lunches... without busting the bank.. (what does that mean??) 30euros/person approx. thanks. this website sure is helpful and addictive! |
There used to be a wonderful place called Marquis de Salad (not kidding), but I am not sure if it's still there. The menu is amazing. On our second to last trip there, my husband and I ate there twice, tried different things and everything we tried was great! It would be great for lunch or dinner.

thanks. will try to find out about it.
seems to be so much to choose from. |
For Sunday brunch, Gundel.

If you haven't already got it down for dinner, I was going to suggest Gundel for a very memorable old world experience. But I'm not sure it can be done for €30. (I've only been for dinner.)

Gundel is a good experience and quite elegant surroundings, although I prefer other places for dining ... except for Sunday brunch, which is essentially a bargain. At current exchange rates, the price, excluding cocktails, v.a.t. and tip is about $27. More info can be found at www.gundel.hu.

For an afternoon coffee try the New York Kávéház. Beautiful place. |
Bagolyvar http://www.bagolyvar.com/angol/index.html Excellent Hungarian dishes, including gulyas and paprika chicken. All female staff is very good, atmosphere homey. Prices were pretty reasonable (it's billed as the affordable sister restaurant to the adjoining Gundel) |
