Narrowing down my itinerary for Italy and Switzerland - finally!

I have finally focused on my itinerary and need some advice! Due to creative ticketing to take advantage of upgrades, we fly into Frankfurt and out of Amsterdam. We plan to take trains.
Last year we did Luzern and Wengen and loved it, but would like to see some new country. Our plan is to leave FRA immediately but we arrive at 3pm, so can't go too far. We are heading to Milan to see a friend, so I am thinking of stopping in Basel or somewhere in time for dinner and a hotel, then on to Milan the next day. Then to Cinque Terra (would like Vernazza but having trouble finding a place to stay) for 4 nights.
Then we would like to head over the Bernina Pass to Davos or Chur for 4-5 days exploring and hiking. Should we stay somewhere before the train trip? Tirano doesn't look too interesting. any suggestions? Recommendations in Davos or Chur would be appreciated as well.
After Switzerland, we are going to head north to end up in Amsterdam. We have another 6 days or so. Is Luxembourg worth a day or two?
Help! My fingers are getting tired from all the searching!

I am totally lost--I hope you are not.
I must not understand creative ticketing.

sorry Bob, it is confusing me too. Mostly want to have a couple of base towns to spend 4-5 days each, looking at Chur area and Cinque Terra.
and i wonder if we need to spend a night in Tirano before the Bernina Express trip over to Chur.
any help is appreciated!

So, the upgrades are controlling your total itinerary. It that not counter productive?

Hmmm, my choice I guess. I love to fly first class, can't help it.

Never flown first class, but after one business class journey on a long flight, I think I can understand your choice! Enjoy!
