Narbonne, ideas for 3 days - need a car?
We wil be in Narbonne on a Tuesday,Wednesday and Thursday, early July. What are the must sees in the area? Do we need to hire a car or is there enough in Narbonne itself to keep us busy. Would love to hear what you enjoyed about this area. The week previous to that we will be in Cahors - with a car.

Hi oz,
Why will you be in Narbonne for 3 days? ((I)) |
We arrive there on a Monday evening and fly from Carcassone to London on the Friday, so we have all day Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday to explore. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

You will need a car if you want to see the surroundings :
Abbaye de Fontfroide (cistercian. Montagne de la Clape, overlooking the sea. The old village (and beach) in Gruissan + sailors cemetary Abbaye de Lagrasse, near Carcassonne The Cathar Castles via Durban, Paziols, Tuchan (wine country) The road from Narbonne to Port-la-Nouvelle along the Bages lake. Collioure, South of Perpignan..... |
Hi OZ,
Also the beach at Narbonne Plage. Also see www.corbieresweb.com/english/tourism.htm You might want to spend the night before your flight in Carcassone. The Old City is very interesting at night. Enjoy your visit. ((I)) |
we were in Narbonne a couple of years ago just to visit for a few hours but I remember seeing the canal. I would think you might be able to do a barge day trip if you don't have a car to visit some of the near by sights as mention by pvoyageuse. I'll try to see if I can find any info for you. We had a car and drove to Gruissan, also Fontfroide. Deborah

Narbonne is on the main railway line which serves Sète, Agde and Collioure, amongst other places. Narbonne itself is a very interesting city.

Thank you all for the responses. I'll google the places and do some reseach on the ones mentioned. Sounds like we will find quite a bit to occupy us.
