Naples to Positano transportation?

Thank you to all those who responded to my previous postings about hotels in Positano. I booked the Villa Rosa so hopefully everything is perfect.

My second question is regarding transportation. The flight from Rome to Naples gets in at 4:20pm on Sept 3rd and I was wondering what the best way to get from the airport to the hotel would be considering the late afternoon arrival. I looked on Metro del Mare but can't make sense of the schedules. It looks like an afternoon departure won't get us to Positano.

For those that have tried private transport, any recommendations for a more reasonably priced service?

Hi GB - For private transport expect to pay € 100-120. The following have all been recommended here.

- Positano-based

www.positanocarservice.com
www.flaviogioia.com
www.limocarservice.net
www.benvenutolimos.com (Praiano)

- Sorrento-based

Metro del Mare doesn't work for your arrival time. Your best public transport option is via Sorrento -

i.e. Curreri bus or Circumvesuviana train to Sorrento, then Sita bus to Positano. This is inexpensive - but slow (- 2hrs+)

Hope this helps ...

We stayed at Villa Rosa in May and arranged a driver with the front desk to take us from Positano to Naples to catch the train to Venice. It cost 100E. I'm sure you could email Villa Rosa and ask them to arrange to have a driver waiting for you at the Naples Airport. Might just be the easiest thing to to.

Otherwise, I "think" you could probably take a train to Sorrento from Naples and then take the SITA bus to Positano (I did not try this myself, so someone here can correct me if this is not possible). I'm not sure of how to find the schedules from home, however, again, the Villa Rosa could probably help you with that. We found them very friendly and helpful.

In my opinion get a driver. It's worth it to avoid the extra hassle. And, yes, do ask the hotel first.

As OP says, you can more cheaply to the circumvesuviana (sp?) train to Sorrento, then bus to Positano BUT it's time-consuming and you'd be schlepping your luggage.

In case it affects your decision, the Circumvesuviana Station in Sorrento does have an elevator to get your luggage from the platform down to ground level. There are then about a half dozen steps down to where you get the bus.
